What is the up side of blockin egr off and what is the down side? Once again Thanks.

The good:
stops the the plug wires from being burnt.
you have easier access to the rear two plugs.
loose 2lbs of front end.

The bad:
Runs richer.
sometimes fail emission.
Less mpg.(went from 20 to 15)
You have to trick the computer or will throw codes.

So fuel mileage goes down, I really would like to clean that area up, but i drive my car several hundred miles a week so thats probably not a good idea for me huh.

The hot exhuast air from the egr causes the car to run lean = better mpg
Although you should be able to get a tune to correct that, I just haven't really tuned my car.

Thanks, Ijust gettin started in the fuel injected would I been runnin carbs on dirt for a couple years but thats a different game.

I agree that I'd leave it on till it is not financially feasible to keep it (something breaks on it). As Cobra03 noted, at cruise the inert gasses allow the EEC to add timing and remove fuel, which helps economy and increases engine efficiency (the throttle is open further to compensate for the EGR).

To be really clear, you're not thinking of the A.I.R. (smog) system, are you? It is MUCH more bulky and weighty, with a pump, discharge hoses, diverter valves, a check valve, and so on.......... I find the AIR system components to be in my way much more than the EGR stuff. It is easier to remove the AIR system if that's what you intended......

No i was referring to the egr I just was wantin to clean up engine compartment. The smog is disconnected already it will be gone next week im waitin on my bypass.

I too would hang on to the EGR. I've noticed a marked improvement in MPG on guys that I tune that still run EGR. Plus you can increase the EGR dutycycle in the tune and get even more.

Keep it unless it is broken!

on my 94 i installed a new egr tube(the other was gone) and picked up mpg a lil'

WON'T HURT ANYTHING. DON'T REMEMBER IF I LOST MPG BEFORE I GOT MY CAR TUNED, BUT I DON'T REMEMBER LOSING ANY MPG. INTAKE MANIFOLD STAYS COOLER. ON A TRIP I GET ABOUT 21-23 MPG ON MY 95 GT.
