when im standing at the back of my car, my fuel pump is whining loud enouph to be heard over my loud ass exhaust. Is this normal, or is my fuel pump going bad? thanks

When mine was doing that I was told its bad. What you can do, take a screwdriver and put the metal end to the fuel tank, and put your ear to the other and listen to it. If its gurgling, stuttering, etc, its probably going bad. But if it's just at a constant whine that doesn't change it "SHOULD" be ok.

I've got a 95 GT convertible that I have owned since it was brand new.(And now has only 5,100 miles on it.) The fuel pump on my car has been noisy since it was new so I don't think it is anything to worry about. Mark :D

Mine is starting to change with the engine a bit... Maybe it is jsut more noticable now that the top is up more. When (miles wise) did you change yours out? I have the new one at home jsut waiting for the opportunity to change it and this project is constantly becoming back burner to everything else around the house.....

What concerns me is that my commute is 85 miles a day. I have a brand new truck at home but would rather drive the stang but I don't want to park it unitl I can get around to changing the pump but I also don't want to get stranded. The pump will give me warning signs that it is failing as far as the engine falling on it's face at WOT, etc.?

Then how long till the pump actually dies???

On my 95 the fuel pump has been loud since the day I picked it up. That was 5 years and 70k miles ago. I believe the whining is normal, but if you feel there is a problem you should definetly check it out. On a side note, my fuel pump is out on my 93 and some of the signs were: the car stuttered on WOT, the car would cut of intermittenly and wouldn't crank up for hours, and I couldn't hear the fuel pump turn on with the key the ignition. I hope that helps. Good luck.
