So I've dug around through the search function but didn't come up with what this noise could be. The car is a 91 GT.
As the description says it's a whirring sound that could also be called a ticking or buzzing. It seems to be coming from behind my tach. The sound happens while in park or while driving. Hoping all I needed to fix the noise I recently had the shop change the speedo cable and housing. The *^(# noise is still there. Oh, and yes I made sure they lubed up the cable with graphite before installing.
Could it STILL be the speedometer cable? What makes me think it's not is the sound is still there while in park. The speedo cable wouldn't be spinning in park, right?
If it's not the speedo then could it be the tach? The tach is, like most of ours, sticking and needs the connections at the back resoldered. Hope to do that soon.
Thought to ask the forumn before taking off the cluster. I really don't want to take it off twice. I cringe working with these plastic parts, every time it's a risk of stripping / scratching / or breaking.
Any direction or help would be greatly appreciated.
