Shop tried to put it in today, it wouldn't fit. The Ford dealer said to go with the red gear, should I do that?

If it's for an automatic, the white gear should fit. They are different between standard and automatic trannies.

red is for a 5-spd

Purple 21-tooth is what you would want for an AOD.

But it will be off, 23 tooth white gear will be perfect

The shop said something about the little shaft on the gear is either too long or too short, is that even possible?

that would be the difference between the 5 speed and aod gear. the aod gear has a longer spline and almost no shaft. the 5 speed has a long shaft and only about an inch of spline

Yes -- the 23 tooth is not a Ford part and not exactly the same. But if they put it on and put it in the tranny it will work.

Figure this would be a good spot to piggy back this thread

Anybody know what gear I would need for a C4 and 3.73's? The driven gear assembly I have in there (mainly to plug the hole) came out of a T5 and buries the speedo at about 45 or 50.
