white stain showing up on cyl heads

hey i have my heads in the garage that i am porting, and they are starting to get this white stain on them. Some kind of moisture build up or something?? doesnt really hurt anything, some of it was inside the bowls and it easily grinded away like nothing.

also, usuallly whats a 3 angle and a slight milling cost??

are you sure the white wasnt inside the bowls before? That would indicate coolant being burnt off. Which means either your heads are warped, decks arent square, or ur head gaskets were junked.

no it wasnt there before, the heads were spotless when i got them hot tanked.

you realize by posting something like white stain on your heads in your ports, your askin for it with this crew in here......


if your garage is damp with bare metal that might be doing it, or coulda been some dried left over anti freeze in the coolant passages seeping out.......not sure......

Aluminum doesnt rust per say, but it will get a whitish buildup when unprotected.

Id say spray the heads down with WD40 to prevent corrosion

If your going to soake them, don't use WD40. Use the stuff they sell specifically for rust protection.

It's aluminum oxide, just clear it off

If they are in the garage then condensation can build up if you are going through some temp changes. Keep em covered in a trash bag when you arent working on em.

if your taking them to have them machined and or valve job done and they hot tank them they should be fine.........i dunno if they hot tank them and bead blast them or what exactly your shops procedure is.....ask them......
