who has dumped exhaust?

yes my dumps sound awesome! i love them on my spintechs!
supposibly you get some exhaust fumes in your car but i never had that problem. every now and then i get a tiny smell of exhaust and its gone.

ok guys, i am taking off my tailpipes and dumping my flows. tell me the before and after effects of tails to dump, how does it sound, sound much different? how? thanks guys! :nice:

FYI, I have dumped flows with a 2-cat aftermarket H-pipe, and BBK equal-length shorty headers. 2 1/2" from front to back.

With tail pipes (before dumping), the exhaust was loud (almost annoying, but it got better after the 2-cat H-pipe was on), got louder with higher RPM, with a deafening resonance at 1900-2200 RPM.

After dumping, the sound was not drastically different, with the exception of a few things: more of a bassy tone, the resonance was gone, and the sound level was more consistent throughout the RPM range (i.e. it didn't get louder as the RPMs went up). The bass has a tendency to go away after 3000 RPM.

I dumped because I needed clearance for a panhard bar and wider tires. Hope this helps out.

I've got poor-man's dumps...or no dumps at all. The muffs on my car have a custom welded 3 inch outlet (i have no idea why) so i havent bothered getting dumps for'em, plus the jackoff that put these on the car spot welded the mufflers to the rear axle....yea that's right, they're that far back, which means either the H is too long or the feeder pipes out of the front of the muffs are too long. Either way, they're bye bye this spring, although i must admit the car sounds sweet as hell.

I got into an accident and the taipipe got bent so I figured I would put dumps on it. I thought it was cool at first but now its kind of annoying its to loud at idle and cops are following me more so im going back to tailpipes.

I went out today to look for some bent tube's to use as dumps but i couldnt find any. Were do i get some at? The only ones i could find at the auto parts store was a screw type deal that went on the end of the exhaust. Would this work if i welded it....it doesnt have that much of a bend in it tho.

Pep Boys will have 45 degree metal elbows. Just slide them over the end of ur mufflers(i have mine pointed outwards) and run a couple sheet metal screws through it to hold it in place and your done... My car isnt any louder with dumps sitting inside my car than with tailpipes nor do i smell any exhaust

p.s- If you wanna experiment with different sounds, cut the 45 degree elbow by an inch at a time until you get the sound your looking for.. Ive noticed with the full elbow it has more rumble at idle but quieter at high rpm. I cut 3/4 of it off which gave me a mellow rumble and a nice sweet sound at higher rpms!!

cut slits into the part that slips over your muff exits, then clamp'em. I'd agree with the slightly turned to the outside thing, cause it does make it louder...if that's what you're looking for. The only down side to this is you're more likely to smell the exhaust fumes than if they're turned straight down.

I run dumps on the 5.0 ranger out of neccisity (no clearance with the 6/8 drop), If I had a choice I would run pipes out the rear because it sounds better and is quiter in the cab (can get pretty anoying if you are trying to carry on a conversation, especially with flowmaster 40's), but I am also running a c4 so at highway speeds I am turning more r's than most of you.

I've got Delta Flows with turndowns- I just had the muffler shop cut off six inches of my tailpipes and weld them on turned out at a 45 degree angle. Sounds awesome, no resonance, and on a cold day the exhaust splits and comes out surrounding the tires- looks like they're smoking standing still! :nice:

P.S.- Installation $20 each at local Seeburg Muffler.

I have very short tailpipes on my toy, mostly because it was cheaper.

It sounds ok, for just Thrush turbo mufflers. Depending on the degree of legal scrutiny you may experience, the dumps may not be ok. If you get tot he nitty gritty, most places want pipes to extend past the passenger compartment. On a Mustang, that is past the rear bumper or to the side. A friend has a 65 Shelby Mustang clone, and verified the the side exits are legit. My 97 F150 has and oem side exit also. Otherwise there are cheap and effective and do not hit going on and off the trailer.
