I remember seeing people on here that had somehow painted their tail lights. I would like to get rid of my tail light blackouts by painting the tail lights black... Of coarse they still have to be usable.

Anybody that has done this let me know what you did and if it lasted...

you don't mean the acutal lenses do you? I don't see that working very well with paint unless there is some transparent paint i've not yet seen. What about a transparent black vinal wrap. I've seen em online but don't know how they'd hold up on lenses.

otherwise 1105 has it right on- i think 94sc50 has like 3 different sets of tails that he's painted

edit: blah 1105 changing it on me

you talking about the bezels? or the lenses??....ive painted my bezels black, just take your time and tape em off and then spray.....i think some have used some sort of transparent black on the lenses, or maybe a black tint or something would work....

i don't know about IL but if you did that here, i'm sure i'd be a quick ticket (Either way with the blackout lenses or paint/tint)

I don't see just a light coat of spray paint working either. I'd say look for a tint or some transparent paint.

Why do you want to ditch the blackouts anyways... painting it you always run the risk of ruining them if it doesn't turn out the way you like

You can lightly mist some black paint on the inside (evenly) and it will look tinted or blacked out. Start off light and add more as you go if it is not dark enough for you but a light coat will be dark and bling on the outside. If you wanna paint the bezels they pop right off after you unscrew them from the light.

well in IL its illegal to have blackouts on at night... Sorta funny cause you can't tell there on at night, never even been warned about them.

I just think if everything was black it would be sharp as hell.. Even the center brake light.

Thanks JR for the info!

There's this one. :nice:

OMG that is frickin beautiful. I gotta do this! Especially on a black car.

In the thread they were talking about the finish after he painted them. My guess is that he painted the outside of the lenses. If you painted the inside, you would still see red during daylight, but only in the night time would could you tell it was painted.
