who is using Canton aluminum road race pan

I had one and unless you plan on getting under your car every 2-3 heat cycles to tighten up the bolts for the oil pan plan on lots of leaks. I also had a hard time trying to check oil levels since the dipsticks i tried to use would not give an accurate measurement of oil levels.

You can also get aluminum or steel from Aviaid or Armondo Racing pans. But like others have said if not a really well made pan will be more trouble then it's worth. The Aviaid and Armondo steel pans are pretty much the standard that I see on much of the vintage Shelby(TM Not used with permission) road race. I have a steel canton pan that I replaced with an Aviaid, and another motor has the Armondo version. I think one other place I have had some folks say the aluminum pans are excellent I think it was from http://www.billetfab.com but they mentioned very expensive.

FWIW every pan I have had except has had the hammer to it, some due to 4 bolt blocks, some due to forgetting to have them remove the scraper, etc. I had a Canton with a pin hole lead behind a bolt that was almost impossible to find, an Aviaid that leaked and had welding slack in the pickup after plating, etc. The canton was I think, the lease expensive, but had lower capacity then then other, I think I'm running 9.5 Quart Aviaid. Armondo used to be less costly then Aviaid, but I think they are about the same, Armondo used to work for Aviaid so pans are about the same...

For the shelby cast aluminum pan, I don't think I would run one. If you do hit something expect it to crack and be done with. The canton pan's are yellowish from the ones I have had or seen, but both the Aviaid and the Armondo are silverish plated and look aluminum, so if that is what you want it is easy. If you do poweder paint your pan I don't know if it is a good idea to do the inside of it.

As to commenting on the road race pan, if you do intended on doing some track work (road course) it is cheep insurance. If not on the track at all, skip it. These pans pop up on ebay now and again, but if you can afford it, worth it. The look nice from the front of the car too.

I don't know much about the stefs pans, but most that I have seen are drag race type for the 5-Oh guys, so don't know how they work on the older cars for road race.
