Who makes a stainless steel exhaust kit for classic mustangs?

I know of the Magnaflow kits. Does anybody else make something? I really don't want to get into what sounds better like they did is this thread I just want to know what, if anything is out there.

I think NPD does. I know that JC Whitney has a kit minus headers and mufflers. It runs almost 200 Bucks. I'm lookin into that kit in the near future. A lot of folks knock JC Whitnety but its kinda hit or miss w/ them, sometimes ya can come out ahead. Ya just gotta be smart about it I reckon.

I didn't see anything on NPD or J.C. Whitney. It looks like Magnaflow is the only game in town if I want stainless. I have a friend that works at Corsa, he said they could bend me up a complete system from headers back but I am afraid of what that would cost. The $450 for the Magnaflow is looking like a better and better deal.

Depends on what the kit would come with for 450. SS is EXPENSIVE, just for material. I'd be most worried about getting headers in SS since they take the most beating.(heatwise)

$450 is for everything after the headers. X-pipe, mufflers, pipes, tailpipes, hangers, everything.

The headers are going to be ceramic coated.

i know jegs has a kit type deal, and probably summit aswell... i dunno the quality cuz it's their own kits

The best deal I have seen on an aluminized steel kit is at Summit Racing for $174.00. That doesn't come with an H or X pipe. That can be added separately for $30.00. Jegs didn't have anything specific for the mustang that was any deal. In fact all of the name brand aluminzed kits I have seen for the 67-68 mustangs are between 250.00 and 350.00. Which is why I was thinking I would just spend the extra 100 for the Stainless and never have to redo it.

I don't think anyone can touch the Magnaflow kit price-wise. I bought the over-axle aluminized pipes from Flowmaster and they cost about half that much alone, that does not include X/H or even mids much less the muffs.

As long as you like the Magnaflow muffs (they are my favorite) it is a fantastic deal.

I guess that is probably why I have my reservations about spending the money. I have never heard a Magnaflow system in person. I have listened to the clips on their site so I have an idea. I have never been into REALLY LOUD exhausts. I am looking for a more mellow growl, which from the clips on their site sounds like what I should get.

I'm in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Area if anyone want to hear my magnaflow sometime... I like it. Problem is, mine is EFI so it has the different firing order, and I think those sound different vs. a carb.

I agree that the sound is completely subjective, what sounds great to one person may sound like crap to another. Also comparing those sound clips that litter the intardnet is a waste of time unless they were done back to back on the same car with the same recording methods/hardware/software.

So take my opinion with a grain of salt...comparing Magnaflows to Flowmasters 40s I would say they are very close on shear volume at WOT, but at idle and low RPM the magnaflows are much quieter, MUCH lower in pitch, and a lot smoother too. The Flowmasters tend to have a louder, sharper, raspier, and more metallic sound at idle and low RPM when compared to Magaflows. The differences are less pronounced with Flowmaster 50s but still quite evi dent. Flowmasters are well known to have a "drone" appear at certain RPMs (this varies from one car/engine to another), the Magaflows just get louder and louder as the RPMs increase.

I have never liked the way Flowmasters sounded on small block Fords. I put a MAC cat-back on my 94 convertible because according to all reports it had the least obtrusive "drone" but it is still pretty noticeable from 1800-2000 RPM which unfortunately is right where the car cruises in OD. It is better than the Flowmasters but still there. 90% of the time I drive the car the top is down so the drone isn't there. I would put a MAC system on the 68 if they made one but they don't. More and more the Magnaflows sound exactly like what I want. I just wish I could hear them in person.
