who makes good fiberglass fenders?

just wondering if anyone does...I know up22 does, but I dont know anything about the quality...if they are even fairly good I would go with them, but I dont want something I am going to have to work on for 2 weeks before they are good enough to fit...anyone bought fenders(and or a hood)? how is the quality?

Dunno about fenders. Stay away from MAS. I bought the one piece front end.......

No personal experience but I have heard that up22 and mas were complete crap. I wouldn't deal with them unless you are ready to do major bodywork.

I'm not sure there is such an animal. My friend has 'glass fenders on his '66 and they took a ton of work to look nice, and they weren't much lighter than steel ones.

DO NOT USE UNLIMITED PRODUCTS. I have a trunk deck I ordered from them. Arrived in a box with no corner supports. All the corners were knocked off....bad. UP blamed it on Fed Ex. The deck lid was just shoved in a box and shipped There was no way it would ever NOT be damaged. The workmanship was totally substandard. I wanted the inside supports for bolting to the original trunk hinges, and its there, but crooked, flimsey and just crappy workmanship. I swear it weighs MORE than my steel trunk lid. It also took almost 10 weeks to get. I still have this piece of crap if anybody wants it. Stay away from up22 if you want a quality part.

Yep, I agree with everybody here. Stay away from unlimited! (up22) Friend ordered a hood. ABSOLUTLY TERRIBLE!! Wouldn't take it back, had all kinds of trouble with them.

Maier

I have Maier Racing fiberglass fenders on my car. They took a lot of work to make them fit. I had to trim the area where it meets the door and modify the front to accept the headlight buckets. The finish is wavy and would take more work than I was willing to put into it to make it look as good as steel.

On the plus side they do weigh about 10lbs less per fender than steel and the extra flare allows for a bigger tire. They are also structurally well made and I expect they will hold up just fine.

In the end I got what I expected and therefore wasn't dissapointed. However, if I ever have to replace a Mustang fender again I will use nothing but original or Ford tooling fenders.

well, I do want fiberglass for the weight savings...if I have to work on them to make them fit then I guess I will...currently my car has no fenders or hood, I will stay away from unlimited though...I should know by now that you get what you pay for, anyway, thanks for the replies

trust me....fiberglass is hell....if u have the money, get the ford tooling stuff....

why cant these fiberglass makers just make stuff that actually fits???

The Front valances from cobra autmotive fit great. My friend has it on his 66. I am not sure who the use to make it but its nice stuff.

I just put a gravel shield from maier racing on my 65 fastback and it fit pretty good. It lined up well against the fenders took a little work to get it to fit the stone guard but overall pretty good for fiberglass. If this is any indication on how good there molds are i would concider other parts.

all of that work to shave 20 lbs off the front of your car? Why not just move your battery to the back or do something else to drop 20 lbs. It seems like that is the only benefit to glass fenders

I agree...dont buy from UP22. I bought a scoop from them years ago...you could see through the fiberglass...very cheap

well, I am doing all sorts of weight reduction stuff, this is just part of it...pretty much I am aiming for a curb weight of 2300lbs...if I can get there with steel fenders, great, but if I cant it will have to be fiberglass

i got the maier flared fenders i used them because of the work not invloved in adding the flares to a steel set like i had to do on the rear i had to drill the mounting holes for the fenderand the headlight buckets and block them and primer them a few times to get the wavyness out of them View attachment 433222

We have their decklid and end caps. We had to add 1/4" to the drivers side and other areas to get a reasonable fit. Also, as with most any fiberglass (or metal for that matter) a lot of waves in the low crown areas.

waves arent a problem and are easy to fix, missing material is a problem, but one I can deal with if need be, I think I will go with maier fenders and a UP hood and trunklid(since they sell full pin ons, which is what I want) it looks like I have a lot of fiberglass work ahead of me, ah well, I've done worse
