who makes long tubes to go around an AOD in a classic?

i have been running 351w headers from summit racing on my 306 just because there the only header i was able to find to work. they are wider at the bottom compared to a 302 header but the driver side header does hit the steering box.

now upgrading to the 347 i want to do this right with the correct headers for my application.

so who makes long tube headers to fit in a 67 with an 347-AOD

Try calling Hedman and Hooker I guarantee they have something for your application.

Dont' be so sure. This is one of those questions on here like "What tire size can I fit on XXXXX" -- lots of talk without a lot of definitive answers. Did you do a search? There are a bazillion threads about this.

I didn't find anything either. There is someone on here who runs hedman elites on his 67 with an AOD I have pics of it but can't remember his username. He could help a lot cause I don't have any definite answers.

Is the AOD wider than the C6? If not maybe hooker makes my headers for a 302. Mine barely fit around the C6 one of the collectors was barely touching it but it didn't cause me any problems.

It's Edbert that has the Hedman Elites with an AOD, and if you do a search for "AOD header" and look at the second thread from Classic Tech (not counting this one) you'll see pictures and everything.

Like reenmachine said, don't be so sure. I don't know why certain companies have such a hard time properly rigging up and producing accurate headers sometimes. I used the hedman Elite's on my 65 mustang (302), I had to cut and re-weld part of a primary on the passenger side to get it to fit and because my car is lowered, I literaly had less than 2-1/2" of ground clearance since the headers hung so low. They where bitchin with thier heat treatment, flange thickness, and serious durability. BUT they were unnecessarily low. There was a large space between the firewall and primaries which could have eaily been used to tuck up teha headers up at least 2" (which would have made all the difference in the world as far as ground clearance). Just my 2 cents.

I just went with the Elite shorties. I may have given up 10 HP, bit I don't have power steering drop or ground clearance issues either.

I've got long tube "Hedmann Elites" on my 351W with AOD. They may or may not work on a 302. The place where the AOD gets tight is by the pan, the connectors are about 1/2 inch away on both sides. I do not have any pictures that show the tight area well but I have some that show around the bellhousing here:

I have hooker Comps (not super comps) on mine, its tight but they do fit. They are a pain to install, I can tell you the easiest way if you end up getting these.

Already putting in a new fuel line, the stock one in those pics wont support 400+fwhp anyhow

They are 1-5/8 primaries with 3-inch collectors, pretty standard stuff, but note...they are NOT exactly equal length.

I have Hedman Ceramic long tubes on my '72 with a 5.0 and AOD. There was a serious interference problem on the driver side between the header flange and the shifter cable bracket. I had to cut, section and weld the shifter cable bracket for clearance, I also had to grind some material off of the header flange on the passenger side to keep it off of the tranny pan. Good luck...

And if that doesnt look like what you want then try a set of custom built headers that will both fit and support the power from a 347, only if you want it done right.

I have ceramic coated Hooker competition on mine. They are sized for a c-6. It is tight on passenger side at the transmission pan. Its even worse with my trickflow aluminum pan, but it will fit.

the passenger side i'm not too rooried about. the driver side on the other hand is where i have my shifter cable bracket that might be tight.

Flowtech headers work. They use 1 1/2" primaries rather than the 1 5/8" primaries like others though. They coe close to the pan on the drivers side. Use a grinder to cut a notch in the flange if they are too close for your comfort. The passenger side fits great. I have a set for sale as they won't clear my R&P setup.

unfortunatly with the 347, 1 1/2" are going to be way small.
