Who will win??

Whats up fellas?? I'm curious if I can take this guy, a buddy of mine who I've had competition with since we've been kids has this Trans Am LS1 with a Borla Cat-Back, 3.73's, Y-pipe??, Hypertech Programmer and a Whisper Lid I think he might have pulleys too, not sure though, my mods are in Sig. He's claiming the win but I think I'll give him a run for his money.......What do ya'll think??

You have no CAI, not that it's going to make or break the race.
I hate GM's but I might give the top end to your friend.
If you drive it like you stole it, you can hang.
Ditch the slowmasters too, sound good make car run slower.

yeah I've been meaning to get a CAI just haven't had time or money, been pretty busy doing other things and just starting to focus on the Stang again.....I think up top he will walk on me, but hopefully I can get far enough ahead on him then just shut it down....lol....

what kinda of Mufflers then????

Flowmaster mufflers aren't making your car slower :rlaugh: They are mufflers for god sakes. What kinda of rear wheel do cars with your mods put down.. the best way to know what kind of chances you have is to dyno and find that out first.

i know people that say that are such tools.
i think he will win.

Wish I still had the dyno graph

03 Cobra w/ only catback'S

Flowmasters made less hp than a 01 Cobra catback.
All dyno's done the same day on same dyno w/ same amount of cool down.

You want a chamber sound? buy a MAC sounds the same and still makes hp.
Plus, it's crap quality.

a buddy of mine with a SS(LS1) put down 317 to the wheels STOCK. then he put on a Lid, and a catback, then he put down 338 to the wheels, I am sure this guy is pushing some serious power to the ground, you should take him through 2nd gear, but after that, I think he will pull you, but go find out, that's the only way you will know.

Really depends on what year LS1. 01-02 got the LS6 intake manifold, and revised cam, and will put down 315 or more to the wheels. Prior to those years, they still used the LS1 intake and cam. Trans Am's are also about the heaviest F-bod, with all the extra body cladding and interior options that come standard. I really don't think the Hypertech programming will come in to play at all. I've seen before and after dyno's of Hypertech tunes, and they resulted in a barely noticeable, if any, gain.

I still give the win to the LS1 though. They've just got too much top end to compete with.

screw the dyno, have you ever been to a track? how good are you at launching? looking at your mods, id say you can outrun him with a good launch, especially since you have that headwork done, you're motor is gonna breath a lot better up high than his pushrod. that is, IF you know all of his mods. if the info is sketchy, it could be anyones race. go practice your launches.

NEWSFLASH!!!

The LS6 intake does nothing! It makes up for a crap cam.

Everyone knows so much yet so little about the LS1.

Then why do 01-02 LS1's consistantly dyno higher than those of prior years?

You need to get your chit tuned Ruben! You're giving up HP that IS there.

How are your DR's holding up? I think you'll hang if not gain from a dig down low, up top, he might have the upper hand.....also, everyone he does drive it like he stole it. :)

They don't!

Plus the older ones most likely are losing power because of scratches in the cylinder liners thanks to piston slap and abuse.

On top of LS6 intake which is supposed to flow better and gets rid of the EGR, they also got freer flowing exhaust manifolds, and different heads that were better suited for the new cam. The Vortec truck cam that they started using was to improve low end torque, and broaden the power-band. It did not limit it's high end at all, just gave it a little more in the lower RPM's.

I think they started fixing the piston slap probs in 99 or 00, by using tighter clearances in the piston sleeves.
