I think it looks stupid on the new edge stangs... some of the earlier SN95's had a blacked out section on the bumper, but that panel seemed to flow better on the rear bumper in general on the aero's. To me it draws attention to a part of the new edge bumper that is f'n ugly. I've never liked that section of the rear bumper. The only new edge bumper that looks good to me is the 03-04 cobra bumper.
