Last monday, my 3 inch cowl flew up on me smashin the windshield... i then couldnt see and i cracked into a telephone pole.... The damage that was done was a front bumper, front right fender, cowl area is caved in, and my brand new black projector headlights were totalled...

Soo far i got a new fender and a 4 inch bolt on hood USING PINS!!!.... my question is.. what is the best way to go about fixing the wiper cowl?? it all caved in and the 2 panels on the side are badddddly dented..... A body shop told me 10 hrs labor and its all gotta be replaced for 600ish... thats ALOT of money... is there a cheaper efficient way to go about this?? this need to be fixed before i paint the whole car...

thanks

I would say that it has to be cut out and redone. Of course this depends on the damage.

Iv had mine fly open 4 times on two different stangs, the body shot had to repair the cowl everytime. With paint and body work, it usually came to over 1g

Count me in. I'm a Two-timing hood slinger. I had Mach I style. My question to you all is: Are your hoods flying up when they are latched all the way? Because both times mine flew up, it was because I was stupid enough to have the hood eased down into the safety latch (which is not a safety latch for a fb hood) so the hood blew up. Second time was almost a year ago from now...June 10th to be exact...and we still haven't gotten around to fixing it. This last time it got the windshield, cowl panel again, hood, and creased the top of the car. My car looked good, too. It's still on ratemystang.com somewhere, it's in the lx section, it's mandarin copper (orange) w/ 97 gt wheels, i think my s/n there is hotstangsat16, if anyone wants to take the time to go see what it looked like before i screwed it up.
Fiveliter87GT, i'm feelin ya man, but you do have it bad w/ the t-phone pole and all. And Sirsureshot, 4? My 89 coupe will retain it's stock hood for a while. Take it easy guys, and good luck with ur hoods.

i think we need a sticky that says "IF YOU HAVE A FIBERGLASS HOOD GET HOOD PINS" there have been like 8 people in the past couple of months have this happen to them. guess its because everyone put fiberglass hoods on over winter and just started bringin the cars out

I've asked this before...but I'm going to ask this again...is their any simple "cheap" way to keep the hood from flying up without using the pins?

I have a 3 in. fiberglass cowl hood that is going to be installed later this summer...

I want something so I could still pop the hood effectivily without having to crawl under the car to undo a wire that holds down the hood...or something....

If you get it adjusted into the latch right, it should stay. My problem was not closing the hood back all the way. It'll definitely come out of first safety latch. By the way, I bought a nice set of hood pins for it after the first time it happened, but I never put them on, hence I let it fly up again.
