Could someone please explain to a dummy like me, in technical terms or otherwise, why you can't shift gears until the rpm's drop from redline? This is normal right? Also whats the best way to get quick shifts when pushing your car? Thanks 5.0 brainiacs.

Two things come to mind. Either your tranny synchro gears are worn or your clutch is not fully disengaging.

Something like this has happened to me twice now and i have yet to figure out what's causing it....it only happens when i REALLY drive my car hard, but it doesnt want to go into 3rd or 5th after i drive it really hard. I've heard something about clutch-suction or some crap where high RPMs can actually engage your clutch even with the pedel pushed in...i can't really explain it but that's my hunch.

You have one or more of these problems: Bad Synchros, Clutch not fuly dis-engaging, and/or bad pilot bearing.

Yes, there are anomalies with high RPM and diaphram clutches, but these are typicaly above 7000 RPM.

my second gear was like that....anything over about 3 grand it would grind..still got in but was bad..and 3rd gear grinded on higher rpm's..all i did was change the synchros, which wasnt too hard. every gear shifts like a champ now at any rpm

What's involved with changing syncro's? I think i've worn my 2nd gear pretty good in my tremec and i plan on doing a clutch install soon. Do you have to rip apart the tranny or what?

I'd bet on the synchros being bad. I seem to love killing T-5's (even with a stock engine...), and with every one of them that I've blown (around 3 or 4), they all had this problem as an early warning, which I ignored.
