OK i have a question. I live in Macomb Michigan, and i go down to gratiot to cruise every weekend ( if anyone knows what i am speaking of). Every time i see TONS of turbo cars, gay cars to like neons and grandams. Now i was told i cant just put a turbo on my car. My question is, Why can they put just the turbo in the car and i cant? i would like to find a used turbo charger or something and throw it on. Is this anywhere close to possible? a new engine is NOT possible at all. i dont have time/money for a whole engine.

Sure, you can slap a turbo on your N/A 2.3 and if you're lucky, it may last the week!

You need forged pistons (not cast) to withstand the pressures applied by a turbo. Do a search and you'll find all the answers.

very carfully.

You can turbo a non-turbo motor, but it takes some tunning know how. Also like stated, its ability to last is undercut by its lack of forged internals.

Ive seen dozens of hondas blow the sleeve, twist/break a rod and numerous shatterd pistons.

A turbo swap isnt exspensive, runs about 300-1000$ if you do it cheap and you (or a friend) have some mechinical know how.

Not trying to be a wise-ass or anything, but if you really want a turbo and don't have alot of mechanical ability, maybe you should sell what you have and buy an SVO! These little Mustang's are quick, fast, dependable?, and a blast to drive!

well becuase u paid 3 grand for my car. was in MINT condition. it had the same tires that came from the dealer ship on it. only 41k on it too. i had some ****er hit me, and i had to replace the fender and front bumper, cost me 1700 with a maaco paint job. (maaco couldnt match my red for some stupid reason). then my dad put alot of new things on the engine for my brithday, radiator, pulleys, thermostat, alternator, battery, timing belt, brakes, plus window tint. so selling my car, for one of those cars just doesnt make any sense. Plus when i graduate next year, i am being allowed to take out a loan for a 2nd fox body mustang, a gt or cobra, so that would be my next car. for right now i want to earn some street credit with my baby, i cant let people think the foxes are ALL slow.

SVO's are few and far between, it's not an option for everyone as compared to the 5.0's which are a dime a dozen.
bvav-Don't waste your time on the 2.3 if you're getting a 5.0 next year. Or just wait and instead of the 5.0, get a 2.3T ... you won't need a loan, but if you get one, imagine the possibilities.

well, being a 17 year old in highschool, i want my car as cool as possible. 5.0 are not a dime a dozen, crappy 5.0's are a dime a dozen, i want a really good as one, my dad told me to spend between 7 and 9 grand for one. and i didnt really say i wanted a turbo, i just figured i would trow one on if it was as easy as the neons.

I heard that all i really have to change is the air intake manifole, and the fuel rail, maybe a new fuel pump. if its harder than that idc about a turbo. my car is still sexier than any ****ty honda or other ricer

Alot of it has to do with the computers their cars are running. For the most part, they are bolting a turbo on to a car that is generally about 10 years younger then our cars. The engine management systems in the ricers can adapt to the turbo and handle it, while the mustang turbo swap requires you to change out the computer and re wire some things. That and the turbo setups on the ricers generally are low buck, low proformance setups.

I know how you feel, everyone thought my car was great in high school until I told them what was under the hood. If you spend 7-9K for a nice 5.0, you need to get your head examined. You can find many a nice 5.0 for 5K and under.

The attitude over here is really down on 4 cylinder cars. Man, i just got out of building 4 cylinder cars. My last project was an 04 srt-4 stage 3, putting down some very good numbers. At the track on drag radials i was able to run low 11s with decent track prep.

Before that car i had a 2003 base model neon 5 speed. Stock internals, hours of dyno tuning, 15psi, and the motor held up fine to 10k miles of beating the crap out of it every time i could.

You can turbo any car you want BUT you have to know what you are doing. Not all 4 cylinder cars are driven by 'ricers'. Being 21 i grew up on 4 cylinder cars. And I enjoy building motors and tuning cars just as much as anyone else in the car world. Even though lately i've decided to move on and bought a 1986 capri, with a 91 5.0 in it and am currently building that motor up for a street car.

well around where i live, people have REALLY nice 5.0's that have like 25k on them, all modded out, i seen one for 7 that was supercharged and had some other mods i dont really know about.

and all 4cys dont suck, the srt-4 is cool, other neons i dont like, and i hate honda's. mainly for looks, i think they just look retarted.

but i guess the only mods im going to do for my 4 banger is a y pipe so i can have 2 tail pipes to emulate dual exhuast, and a flowmaster 40, which is better than my current cherry bomb turbo. maybe wheels.

I think a 2.3 N/A would run for a while on 5 to 6 intercooled psi with the right tune/chip.
You'd have to get a header and an external wastegate set that low.
Stock garrett t3 turbos that came on 2.3 fords are set for 9 psi.
