5 lugs provide more power to be turned through the rear wheels.
5 lugs allow MORE rim and brake choices..like 13in Cobra or Baer brakes
5 lugs are standard on any car, why is the fox mustang different?
5 lugs look better IMO
5 lugs......

4 lugs wont really present a strength issue. Obviouly the 5 will be stronger than the 4, but 4 is more than strong enough. Basically everything else he said is on the money.

Basically, just looks and wheel choices are broader. The other stuff doesnt really matter. You can get some ultra kick ass brakes in 4 lug, and 4 lug isnt weaker.

The only reason Im saying anything about running 4 lug is because I got da wheel covers.
Any fox besides a cobra, u know its gotta be 5 lug. I cant understand what Ford was thinking with that.

I Mustang guy I know that works at a Scrapyard told me that the 5-lug axles are stronger than the 4-lug... To find out for sure I'd call Summit or D&D Motorsports, I'm sure they'd know.

regardless of a 5 lug axle being stronger, if you break an axle it will most likely be at the splines. you'll twist and break splines before you snap a lug off.

from what i've seen, 99% of the time, people do the 5 lug conversion for either cobra brakes or new wheels.

You can answer your own question here.

What is good about your stock 4 lug setup?

hrm.................... well it is there and I have wheels and tires already.

Now do a search on 5 lug and benefits to compare the pros on converting to the pros on what you have.

I've seen 4 lugs ripped clean off at a couple NMRA events, although these cars were in the low 9's.

Meeeeh, I'm not putting enough power to the ground to warrant replacing my 4-lug set up. Besides, I like my Pony's.

if you wanna convert only for diff. wheel choices and you know which wheels you want, you might check around for a 4-lug repro. I know there are repro 4-lug Cobra R wheels, etc...

Ya know sirsureshot, normally I might agree with you, but there's something about seeing a super clean LX with spotless 10-holes that still holds a place in my heart amongst the masses.
