Why do Cobras sound the way they do?

Cobras with any kind of aftermarket exhaust sound so awesome at idle, less deep than the GT's, a LOT louder and they have that really fast rhythmic sound.... what causes that? Is it the DOHC? Is there anyway to make a GT idle like that?

P.S. If you have no clue what im talking about go to 03cobra.net, go to videos, watch the third one (cruise down the street) and listen to that thing towards the end when he parks the car.... that's with an X-PIPE!! Which aren't known to idle very loud, I can only imagine it with an H pipe... why do they sound like that???

Will those MAC's sound about the same on a GT using a 2.5" pipe w/ factory H instead of a 3" pipe and X? I know it won't be loud but the overall sound will be the same, no?

You can make a GT sound pretty ****ing mean. You can make it sound meaner than a Cobra with stock exhaust. But exhaust mod for exhaust mod, 4V >>>> 2V, no way around it.

You will NEVER get the gurgle of a 4V at idle though, maybe unless you find yourself the right cam setup.

That Cobra sounds like @ss in my opinion. My 97 Cobra with offroad upr x-pipe and bassani street comp catback sounds 10 times better under acceleration. Flows also sound good on Cobras.

The Cobras are higher pitched and more echo'ey than GT's. The biggest difference in sound, IMO, is past 4k rpm. It sounds amazing at 7krpm. Used to make me have eargasms.

Intake design, cam profiles, head design....it all factors in.
Yup. I could care less if the '99-up GT's are almost as fast as the earlier mod motor Cobra's. I'd buy the earlier Snake for exhaust note alone. I love any year Cobra as long is it's running a DOHC 4.6L! :hail2:

On the 4v Cobra meanest sounding exhaust I have heard is the Bassani O/R X-pipe and Magnaflow it sounds amazing. I dont like the sound of X-pipes on GT's just doesnt have the mean sound like a Cobra does. For GT's I prefer an O/R H-pipe and either MAC or flowmaster for the catback.

I'm sure the supercharger has something to do with the sound.

A supercharger isnt going to affect sound from the motor. And besides, only the 03+ Cobra's are supercharged.

more compression and more power will equal a louder car.

I dont see how thats possible. LS1's run more compression than modular mustangs and they sound like ****. Mach 1's run more compression than any other modular 4V and sounds the same as any other 4V.

How does the amount of power have anything to do with it? A 400rwhp 03 Cobra w/ exhaust sounds just as mean or even meaner than a 900rwhp car
