Right.. too many people try to talk Sh%! like they know what they're talking about. If I take their word for it and it's wrong, then I take all the blame.

Offending people for not taking their own diagnosis is a lot cheaper than taking their diagnosis and having it be wrong..

Hell I do I tell the customer how much it will cost. They agree to it, fine. I also tell them their outside diagnostic could be wrong and note that in the repair line and make them initial that line and sign the RO. Nothing they can do once it is in writing.

I had a guy with a Subaru do that. He had the A/C diaged elsewhere for a faulty Compressor and wanted us to install it. I gave him the song and dance. Parts had it and we installed it. After spending 500 bucks, the a/c still wasn't blowing cold. He paid for our diagnosis time and found out it was the expansion valve. Another 650 bucks in repairs and paid 1100 for a repair that if he let us diagnose it, he could have saved money.

I only do this if a customer is persistent in just throwing parts. Most of the time they aren't and rather we diagnose it. Now, If they don't want to spend a little bit of money for us to diagnose the problem, fine I will take their money and if it is wrong, offer to diagnose it, and take more of their money. They want to bitch, they can go in front of the mirror and bitch because they were afforded a chance for a diagnosis and they declined it
