Why do people delete their spoilers? Aren't they functional?

I agree that putting things in the way of the air will create drag
but with a object already there by putting devices in spots might direct the air flow over a more managable area or let it exit in a more efficient manner
big point on that is air dams
they put more area in front of the car then having just the front bumper
but they still are able to reduce drag with how it redirects the air around the car rather then let it hit a very bad area of under the car
so by having something in the way of air flow doesn't mean it is going to cause drag all the time

I have to agree that it is possible that the spoiler is reducing drag. I noticed the last time I drove mine, there was light rain falling. When I got home, the spoiler was wet, but the trunk lid was completely dry, so obviously the spoiler is keeping the airstream elevated over the back of the car, preventing it from dragging across the entire area of the trunk. It's possible this is reducing drag in a similar way that keeping the tailgate up on a pickup actually reduces drag.

Actually, I was browsing on my iPhone and I accidentally went to the last page of threads instead of next page. I saw the title of the thread and HAD to read it. :D

LOL, who cares!? Thought it was funny.

I think some of the best tech on this site is not in the future, but in past threads for sn95 and new edge cars.:flag:

Actually it does reduce some weight, I want to say its around 35 pounds is what people have said it weighs. I haven't taken it and actually measured it, but it will reduce some weight. Seats and spare tire though will be much more than the spoiler.

No way a wing weighs 35 pounds. Maybe 3-5 pounds at most.

I weighed mine a few weeks back; it came in at 8 pounds.

If they were taller like the cobra and you're going over 80 mph they would provide downforce however our little ones don't do much if anything. Styling is about it and I like mine. I moved it back 2.5 inches tho. Personal preference is all

I can tell you how the car handles differently between the stock GT wing and the Cobra R wing at 150mph. Stock wing, 20-35mph cross winds, I'm dancing across the road like a grasshopper on hot coals. I swear the car was moving over in random directions 2 feet at a time as it went airborn, or at least that's how it felt. The steering wheel would go light and then wham, a jerk on the wheel and I'm correcting to get back in the middle of the road again. With the Cobra R wing, I went around a corner at 155mph that felt like I was driving a slot car. The real fear is whether the R wing has too much down-force at 150-200mph so I'm planning on putting cameras back there to watch the amount of rear wheel drop I get on the back at those speeds. I may have to get a wing with less down-force to hit 200mph. I read once that the Cobra R wing was good for 400lbs of down force at 170mph which coincidentally was the governed limit of the Cobra R.

Saleen S-351 for me ...
