Josh, you know what amazes me... every damn MU show. When I first started going to them almost 10 years ago (maybe even more) all there was were foxbodies. The last few I went to there were more new edge Mach 1s than fox bodies it seemed. The modded LX class had 5 or 6 cars, including coupes and hatchs... thats weak!

The turnpike used to be a fox body every other car. Nowadays your lucky to see 10-12 of them in a night and it's usually the same ones!

I went out to a cruise night that registered over 850 cars, and would you believe that I was the only Notch there? I believe, if memory serves my correctly, that there were two other LX hatches strictly for the strip, trailer queens, and my buddies low mileage GT. I never thought that I would see the day where I would be the only Notch Fox out of 850 cars.

As far as new sedans wanting to play, I had a brand new Beaver TL try to mess with me going home the other day, but the other driver probably didn't realize that although he has more hp, his car is a lot more porkier than my piggy. I didn't feel like wasting my gas and a TL is an easy kill. If it was the new G37 it would have been a better run, but not on the street of course.

Speaking of G37's, a guy that works in my building recently bought a G37S sedan. I have to say, that thing is pretty damn nice (black w/brushed aluminum wheels). Apparently they're no slouch either.

6-spd's are mid to high 13 second cars.

It's all about new cars. Seems like nobody can maintain an older car

Back in '03 i went to an MU show. I even entered and was one of 10-15 LX hatches. But anyway, someone had a brand new Azure Blue Mach 1 with maybe 100 miles on it. They didn't know what class to put it in so it went in the 96-01 cobra class. The thing was stone stock and it won. Not even a single mod.

I never agreed with putting new cars in a car show. You go to the dealer, toss some UPR crap on it and decals and wash it and call it a show car??

A show car to me is a 10+ year old car that has been restored modded or in a state of condition you would be hard pressed to find another in easily. If it was up to me, newer stockish cars would not be allowed.

Not likely. Everyone else is trying to forget the cars designed in the 80's, not reinvent them.

I think the only "retro" look you're going to see from Ford is the modern interpretation of the classics in the current S197 models.

Yea I know what your saying. There are so many 99+ mustangs running around its sick. I can think of 4 or 5 foxes off the top of my head that I didn't see one time at the pike last year. Oh well I guess, not much you can do.

I dunno....I think Mopar really hit the nail on the head (looks wise) with the new Challenger....and the Camaro isn't far behind.

The S197 on the other hand was a little tamer than I would have liked, but the 2010 model reskinning gives the platform a little more bite. I'll need to see a few of them running around in person with some aftermarket hop ups before I can make an honest call though.

i agree with you on the challenger, havent seen much of the camaro, i used to hate the 05-08 s197's, but after seeing the new 2010's rear end i dont mind them as much anymore lol. the 2010's rear end just isnt going to cut it for me. but like you said, we need to wait and see them in person before passing too much judgement.

i think they went a little overboard on the retro thing. something smaller, lighter, and with a bigger engine would have made me happier. and making a mustang look like a mustang? how do foxes look anything like the original mustang? and they are our favorites...

Foxes don't even have a pony on them anywhere.

You know how many times i heard "That's a Mustang?? i thought they had little horsies on the front?"

But then with my '03 GT...I think i counted something like 32 pony emblems from the factory on it in various places. The damn windshield had THREE of them!

The new Challenger is nice- get one now, so next year, when there is no Chrysler, you can sell it and pay for your kids education. All your kids. The new Camaro is a nice attempt, didn't go as well as the Challenger, I don't think. The S197's are nice, heavy, retro. Terminators are the best recent Mustangs, maybe the best ever- its the culmination of all Ford learned a Mustang could do. They were like a big Ford Racing engineer party, where they all got loaded and said, "Yeah, and lets put a blower on it, too!" My Fox isn't trying to be what it used to be, it was part of a progression, a next, new step for its time. It took old cue's, and new advances, but looked, acted, its own distinctive way. You know its from the 80's, and, contrary to what some believe, thats a good thing. It was a great time to be a Mustanger. Everything today wants to be what it was. We don't need things to be like they were- there are too many sequals in the world today, not enough original ideas. S197's, well, we did that design already, my neighbors 69 Mach is proof. Except it looks, sounds, acts, the part it wants to be, a 69 Mustang. Now wants to be then, and it just ain't, no matter how many refinements the throw on. Its not supposed to be refined, it didn't need to be. My fox's identity is part of why I love it- its recognizable for what they did, what they still do. I love it.

I drive a fox because its a hell of a lot cooler than a yugo. Actually I fell in love with the body style and the workability of them several years ago. Its kinda an Ikon as far as im concerned for anyone that wants to get into a cool car as is factory and you can do pretty much anything you want to to them. The parts are so abundant and interchangeable its unreal. Try to change the nose from a 1979 comaro to a 1993 camaro it would be a fun project but with fox mustangs its all possible you can use your imagination to design your own unique ride.

um or you can have both, i have haha. had an 90 yugo when i had my capri. hilarious. on a serious note, i grew up with my two uncles around me all the time building motors for there 66 mercury comet (351 cleveland) and 65 galaxie (390) and a 67 mustang fastback original 390 4spd car an ran 13.6s with basically no mods. when they went to dealerships i used to get so excited to go with them an grab the brochures of the cool cars. my first one was for the foxbody, 92 i believe. i fell in love with the car an always said i would grow up an get one. if you do the math i was 7yrs old lol. the older i got the more i got into those cars an wanted to learn more about them. 16 yrs old i did my first aod to 5spd swap in my uncles 92 blue on silver gt. he bought it with 24k miles in 95 i believe for dirt cheap. the car had 200k miles on it when we did the swap but looked just as clean as when he first got it. the capri was actually both of those same uncles car at some point. they bought it in 84, it being an 82. knew i would get it when i got my license. that was my first fox. nothin better then how the torque is down low, these 2v 4.6's dont have **** on them with torque..sure they pull good up top but if i wanted power that hi i misewell buy a honda an get VTEC! i like all mustangs but i just dont see anything sexier then a clean fox with some nice go fast parts. i cant park my car an walk into the store without turning around an lookin at it a couple times with a smile on my face...and my car is not perfect but its somethin i put alot of time into an money when i can like most of your guys. FOXES ARE JUST THE S**T!

Also, don't forget all four wheel center caps and the "Feature" cars had them on the headrests. My 'vert, with the 03 seats, has them embroidered on the seat backs.

Fox bodies are cool cars to Mustang owners (not even all of them). They saved the Mustang from it's demise (ala Ford Probe) and helped bring "toy" cars back into the limelight. They have a unique history, and are definately still nice and worth building.

BUT, this really does only hold true in the small community that is Mustang enthusiasts.

GM and Chrysler guys, well they don't care about fox bodies (for the most part). Classic guys, well they think they look like Escorts. Import owners, although the fox body is the standard car to beat in a race, they don't actually like them. Mustang owners, even some of these guys don't care for the fox body.

I like reading why we all own them, and we can all relate and agree, but the majority of the world probably doesn't see things the same as us! Not a bad thing per say, just the truth...

IMO, of course. need that disclaimer on everything.

One reason: soul. Hard to explain really, but haven't felt that sensation in any other vehicle.
