why does my car have vtec?

ill be full throttle and it feels like my car bogs and then like opens up and takes off. sort of like a honda feels like when it hits vtec. also i think i have a vacuum leak because it always dies at stop lights.? any input?

Have you cleaned your MAF sensor lately? I know this is brought up a lot, but it sounds like symptoms of a dirty MAF element. My car would be fine at half throttle, but as soon as I hammered it, it would feel like it was holding back bigtime. The car also stalled at stops from time to time. After I cleaned it I felt like I gained back at least 30hp. Do you have a K&N type filter? How many miles on the car?

clean MAF, possibly a spark plug is miss firing and vaccum leak, delete smog pump. that solved my leak problem!
