why is a 4.6 car better? help me make up my mind.

ok other than the obious reasons like braking, handling and so forth why do you guys think a 4.6 car is better than a fox 5.0? i traded my 5.0 coupe a while back for a 98 gt and for whatever lame reason i want a fox again.

im gonna make a thread in 5.0 talk as well and get there opinons.as far as performance goes im not gonna go there cause it pretty much weighs out.

buy the time you get ported heads, get cams, get a forged bottom end or swap a 32v in and get a entire front tubular suspension to get a turbo kit on it will cost about the same to do a HCI boss block 302. or a 351 swap. and both the t5 and t45 are junk so they even out.

Every one tells me this. If you are only worried about performance, go with the fox body. Thats it soul purpose. I on the other hand want a car that looks amazing and can perform. it has more of that muscle feel IMO than a foxbody does. I wouldn't trade my car any day for a foxbody, and if i would go into performance, it may cost more, but i can still make this beast faster than i would ever need, just might cost a lot more. so what should you do? i can't tell you, just take the one you enjoy driving more i suppose, they are both great cars for thier own reasons. just weigh out the pros and cons.

well here is my opinion on this one. I have owned 2 5.0's and I just got a 2001 cobra so I can tell the difference at least between those. The 5.0 has more torque down low and you don't have to rev it up much to get of it's power. The 5.0 is cheaper and easier modify and has a million parts to choose from. I personally think the 5.0 has one of the best sounds on the road, i also like the raw look and feel of the fox body. As far as braking, handling, and other comforts the 4.6 cars have that hands down. It all really depends what you are looking for in a car. Drive both and decide what you want more.

If you wanna go fast in a strait line, you're better off buying the Fox. If cheap speed is all that's important to you, then you'll be further ahead with a 302W/351W based engine. Aftermarket new and used parts are plentiful and there's always someone selling something for a steal. Keep in mind though....what you save in the engine department you'll spend in all of the other areas just trying to equal the factory superiority of the SN95 design.

You want it to be an all around performer with superior handling, braking ergonomics, stiffer chassis, better suspension, a nicer, more comfortable and more functional interior....and the potential to be made equally quick (with a little more effort) stick with the SN95.

Your problem BK is that you started with the worst (from a power standpoint) of the 4.6L engines. The potential for power is there, but since you're already 45hp behind what the '99-up cars are starting with in stock trim, you've got to do more work and spend more money to equal their performance.

Do what I did, have both. I have a classic too. The only bad thing is now I have 2 cars to work on (just the 90GT and the 68, my 04 GT hardly ever needs work) so it gets a bit expensive.

It mainly sucks for me because two of them need paint jobs.

I say if you want a daily, go with the SN, if you want a hot rod go with the fox.

What are your mods?

And if you're making that much power, with so little money I'd say you're already ahead of the game. Even though 5.0L's can make some decent N/A power, you won't come anywhere close to 289hp/311tq for $500 with one. As a matter of fact, you're going to have the 5.0L outgunned at all levels with basic bolt ons until some serious money is spend on items like H/C/I.

Uh, dont most foxes take H/C/I to make 289 rwhp?

What gears do you have BK? some 3.73 or 4.10s would be an excellent upgrade if you are still stock. Because the lack of low end torque on the 4.6 I would suggest getting a twin screw blower for it. Run it at 6-9 psi and the stock lower end will handle it. You will only have 400ish rwhp but you will have 400+rwtq avaliable from 1200rpm. Twin screws are best IMHO because while a turbo can give more boost and have no parasitic drag a positive displacment S/C will make the car feel like it has a big block under the hood

Look at the big Canadian. He only has 410hp on a heavy ass car but since the power is RIGHT NOW it really moves that beast

The second post was more out of curiosity. My first post is how I feel. The SN can handle, stop, ride better. Has less interior squeaks and rattles. More comfertable seats. ABS and air bags. ANd I think Aero SN95s are dead sexy.

Sorry dude, but you’ve got way more than $500 into your car. Ported PI heads, cams, Long Tube headers, plenum/throttle body, and XCal tune.

You may have not spent a lot of money on them, but those parts new would cost well into the $3,000 range.

And no, I guess you're not comparatively talking about performance between the SN95 and the Fox, but since we've already answered your original question by outlining all of the other areas that SN95 excels at over the Fox, I guess you've got your answer.

Any reason you choose to go back to a Fox now would be based on personal preference from here. And that’s something that nobody can give you a “fact of the matter” answer with.

I'd never own a fox. I dont get it at all. Ugly 80s crap. Great for cheap performance, but you cant out-run Fugly.

Depends on what you consider...."better"

I could make arguements for both sides of the fence. I've owned both vehicles

Gearbanger and 5l5. you both have given me great advice and my mind is made up. and yes i know those parts are worth way more but that realistically what i have in it. my favorite mod to date was the tri bars. i hated the waffle ponies. and i spent more on those and tires than i did my whole build.

I disagree my last fox would out handle any worth sn95. It had 4 wheel disk brakes with power slot rotors and a full MM suspension. It was also very comfortable and the ride was amazing. If you want a sn95 and a fox just buy a fox and put everything from a sn95 car. Then you would have a pretty nice car.

I have owned both and have both ups and downs on both of those cars. The mod motor cars are not as easy to mod as has been said, but they sure are fun when they are modded. Yes a fox is much simplier, and cheaper, but then you get the problems along with the fox as far as age and things that needed to be replaced etc. Both are great cars for anyone and I someday will have a sn95 (new edge) and a fox....but dont plan on owning an areo unless its a 4v
