Why is it Turbo systems are still in the dark?

GreenMustangGT: I've seen how you are trying to keep everything for emissions and go turbo. I don't think you're gonna get away with it up front. Why don't you do a rear remote set up like the ls1 guys. That is the only way I see you getting away with all of that.

I am starting to believe this. It makes me sad that i may need to go with a damn belt.

Theres no reason why you cant have ALL accesories including the smog pump. It just increases the cost, by requring custom built headers. It all depends on how much you are willing to spend, and how much time you have to mess with it.
 
anything is possible... For lack of space with all of the accessories still bolted on, you could have shorty headers bolted on the way they are supposed to be, have the crossover run from one side behind the engine to the other then finish it that way... That'd make it where you only have a single 3" pipe for the turbo upfront, then your DP... Of course you'd need to put some braces on it cause there would be a lot of weight on thoes pipes from the turbo
 
I dont use my AC since it needs a re-charge anyways. Might as well get rid of it. Does it actually take power? I allways hear ppl getting the delete kits because they get more power, I thought it was just the weight/size that the problem is.

Also what other things can I get rid of to make it easier? I dont have aircare here anyways I have my egr tubes cut off and caps put on place to clean up around my passenger header area allready.
 
to make it the easiest... get rid of AC, smog, EGR, PS, relocate the battery, change the brake booster out for a hydrolic one, get a fan that pushes air through the radiator, and relocate the overflow tank... that'll give you plenty of room to do whatever you want, where ever you want for a turbo.

when the AC is not in use, it just acts at an idler pulley so its not using much, if any power at all. Just take it off and run a shorter belt... no need in getting a delete kit.

You can get a kit there minus fuel delivery for $3,000. He is very reputable too.

I bought his TT headers (which are $400) some turbo t3's ($250 for BOTH) So far i'm in for $650.

I'm probably going to be ordering the downpipes which are probably $100-200 (not sure) AND HE WILL MAKE THEM GO INTO YOUR STOCK H PIPE for whoever said you couldn't run cats...

You can get a volvo front-mount intercooler for $20 out of your local jy.

DSM 1g BOV $40

You can use gas tank hoses as the cold side or PVC pipe (strong and cheap as hell)

Add another $100 for misc. crap like clamps...

Theres the turbo kit, and not having to touch a welder it can be done for $940-1040.

Now for a safe and add a decent tune...which is needed for s/c apps anyways...

42lb injectors $230 (ebay special)

Pro-M Mass Air Cal'd for 42's $150 (sometimes you can get a package deal for both even cheaper)

Pro-M Remote Optimizer $50 (tuner) to flatten out your A/F ratio

A BBK fuel pressure regulator (tuner) $80

Timing Light (tuner) $20

Walbro 255lph pump $100

This equals $1,570-1,670..remember not touching a welder and clearing stock accesories.

You could minus about $300 if I would have built my headers but I'm lazy. Now lets mention that this could support 600bhp. Talking about difficulties if you can't bolt on exhaust parts or un-bolt your front clip then you shouldn't even think about doing any performance modifcations to your car.

Out of that list id deffently do AC, smog, and EGR. Might relocate the overflow tank some time too but I think thats about it. Im not into drag racing I just want to turbo for fun :)
 
I heard people had problems getting the PS turbos to work properly on our cars... Reasons I dont know why. A used PS turbo cant be much cheaper than a Master Power turbo. For the price you cant beat the MP turbos... But they are still a fairly new company and if you send it off to get repaired, be prepared to wait for about a year to get it back :nonono:
 
I really think it has to be the level of knowledge that the user has. Do you think it is harder for a Honda kid to tune his new turbo set up? The big problem is mustang guys are lazy and cheap. They don't want to pay someone to do it or learn themselves. This is why the 03-04 Cobras are so popular. A new blower is plug and play (basically). There is no real skill involved.
Another thing is that damn stock block. You guys will spend 4k putting bolt-ons, HCI, fuel, ect and still have the ultimate limiting factor. The stock block. If I had to do it all over again I would have bought my block YEARS ago. Why? Because I have beat the **** out of my can making well over 900whp and the engine has not even had the intake or valve covers off in almost a year.

I had a Novi2000. Worked good. Made good power. I needed 112 octane to keep it alive because of the intake temps. I made around 630whp at 15psi with the blower. Now I make that at about 7 psi with my turbo. ON PUMP GAS. 91 octane. If people would do a little work and check some of the resources ( www.turbomustangs.com ) You could quickly find out what is available.

For those of you that are scared that the install will be a bitch. Bring it over to my house. I will have it done in a day.
 
LOL, I hear you man. I just shelled out the cash so I could just plug and play my turbo. I bought my kit and I installed it in 2 days as well as tuned it. I've been boosting every since w/o any problems what so ever.
Installing a kit is a cinch to do with some basic tools.

i'm expecting it to be a bitch because i have very little experience with working on cars, but i'm not going to let that stop me.

it will be a reality for me. i was originally planning on no intercooler and pvc, but an intercooler can be found very cheap at a junkyard, and i can just as easily use metal pipe with silicon hoses.

i'm going for 350-400 rwhp because i don't want to crack my block. that should be extremely easy to achieve.
 
Installing a kit is only a bitch if you have to fab up the stuff as you go... Bolting a kit form a company on wouldnt be any problem to do in a day easily... Hardest part would probably be drilling the oil pan for the return line.
 
wow 1105....you make a DAMN good point....and i know i could do it.....Merge the headers behind the engine, 1 #'Feed, 1 3" return, down through a high flow cat.....mmmm you really have me thinking again, if this is possible, then why dont people do it this way? seems it would be easier than making custom headers and junk?....my only problem would be the wastegats....wait no it wouldent, i could just put it between the 2 tubes...wow man.....this may just happen!
