Why is my car harder to crank when it is hot?

I replaced all of the cables when I swapped engines due to this very problem. Not sure which was the problem, but they all appeared to have corrosion on the wires down inside the insulation. I say try that route first because 8 feet of welding cable and some connectors is about $100 cheaper than a new starter.

What would there be in the pcm that would make your car crank with a slower rate at normal operating temp than when cold

I never said anything about the car cranking slower because of the PCM. I said that the ECM pulls timing to make the engine easier to crank >>only when the key is in the "start" position<<. Even the old Duraspark boxes do that. If the trigger wire to indicate the key is in the "start" position is not connected, the PCM will not retard timing meaning that the engine will be harder to turn over, during starting.

Thats fine Rob

However, I did not quote you or anybody else for that matter.

You were not the only member to talk along those lines.

In no way was I trying to imply anything negative about your post or thoughts.

As always, I was just trying to join in on the discussion with everybody else

Peace my SN friend as there is no need to feel defensive as I did not mean to be on the offensive

No offense taken. It's an open forum. For discussion. That's all it was. We're cool. :SNSign:

I say it's the cables. Check that before getting all worked up into what others mentioned.

I gotta agree

Something is drawing too much current.

If it ain't one thing its another

Especially since our cars are getting as old as they are
