Then I'm done. The light works now with the jumper even though I bought the scan tool. Thought it worked like a new car with all the sensors. Thanks to everyone for the help.
It's hard to explain why your light is working. You're car isn't exactly in factory configuration, so it's tough to understand what has been done to it in terms of wiring and such. Even in the facotyr cars with a CEL, it doesn't come on with every single code stored, so it's not like the new OBD2 cars. Only the more severe codes cause the light to come on. Minor stuff, like when the smog pump is deleted, does not display the light. That's why I wouldn't rely on the light to tell you when there is a code stored.
A factory 86-88 speed density 5.0 car does not have a check engine light.
