I don't know if this is normal or not, but when I turn my 89 5.0 off, I keep hearing a clicking sound from the number 6 cylinder (driver side, 2nd from the front). Is this normal, and if I pull my valve cover off that side, would I need a new gasket? Thanks

P.S. My car is really slow

you rebuilt the engine at 65k? wow....but anyways...how long does it last? more than likely you will need new gaskets. it could just be the headers cooling off. my exhaust makes clicking noises like that after the car is turned off

Nope, it is just a ticking sound coming out of the no. 6 header area. It might last less than a minute and it isn't very loud but definetly noticable. Might be a gasket because when I first got the car that header bolt kept backing out.

What do you think?

a leaking gasket wouldnt make any noise if the car is off. its probably just creaking and popping from cooling down. that cylinder might be running hotter than the other ones. after you drive it around and get it warmed up turn the car off, pop the hood and spray a little water on the header primaries and if that cylinder bubbles more than the other ones..its running too hot

I agree, if it's the noise I'm thinking of, it's normal.

All 5.0's I have seen so far, after shutting off tend to throw out a few pops and clicks from under the intake area while cooling down. That's likely what it is.

Funny, never did do research to find out what that noise is, but so long as your car runs fine while on, don't worry about it.
