wierd clutch problem

well atleast i think its my clutch. the trans has been rebuilt not too long ago and a new centerforce df clutch and flywheel were installed. after driving in traffic for a while my trans doesnt want to come out of gear when im stopped and its hard to get in gear when im stopped. if i manage to get into first before i stop(which i usually do just to be safe) with the clutch all the way in. if i take my foot off the brake the car wants to roll forward and will do so if i am on a flat road. do you think i just need to adjust my clutch? i really need a firewall adjuster so this will be easier..but i dont. any help is appreciated

its ur clutch, mine is doing the exact same thing, my cable is adjusted all the way and it still wants to roll and it wont go in and out of gear easly.

yeah, i think im gonna try to adjust it a little. but its kind of a PITA because i gotta get a buddy over here who has a jack and some tools. i dont have anything. and than after i adjust it i have to let it down and drive it to see if it feels right and if it doesnt i gotta jack it back up. wish i had some ramps

It's NOT your clutch, both of you, it's your adjustment. I see this EVERY DAY, and yes, i'll bet the farm on it. I blew out my first clutch AND transmission this way.

Blkstangman, you shouldn't be using an adjustable cable, they are garbage. I wrote a VERY in depth article on this whole subject, and has adjustment procedures at the end, and suggestions how to set your car up. BOTH of your answers will be here. you won't have to yank your clutch. hit me up if you have any more questions after you read it.

my car still has the automatic adjuster, it normaly always adjusted so the pedel has to be close to the floor but now its all the way adjusted and the clutch wont disengauge so the car still tryies moving even with it engaged.

hey v8 will adjusting my cable properly keep me from having that problem with the trans not wanting to come out of gear? i guess im gonna have to get a oem cable and adjuster here pretty soon. but do you think i need to tighten the cable to get rid of my problem or loosen it up. i read that article and it said to have like 1 inch of nothing before the pedal gets tight....ive got like a good 3 inches or more maybe at the top before it gets tight. thanks

I assume you've done the pull up on the clutch pedal then depress it trick?? this adjusts the "stock" setup. If that doesn't work, then the aftermarket quadrant and firewall adjuster is the ONLY way to go. With what your car is doing right now, it's not going to take long before you smoke your clutch out, and possibly your tranny. Back about 6 years ago, I replaced my clutch with a fresh king cobra, and a firewall adjuster/clutch quadrant. I hadn't been on the net yet, and had no clue as to cable adjustment. I had it adjusted too loosely like yours, and went through a new clutch within a year.

anyhow, your fix is less than $100 away. I've got some good suggestions which setup to buy on my site that I linked (it's easier to link then to type out a very long explanation, as between the corral, stangnet,foureyedpride, and a few other small mustang sites, I wind up typing the same thing every day good luck

Get a aftermarket clutch quadrant, could be it. My pedal feels like mush now, I guess I bent the plastic pos powershifting. I also can't feel the friction point anymore, I'm assuming quadrant, and I'll probably get a firewall adjuster too, unless they're not worth it; anyone know?

read my site. the firewall adjusters are mandatory. at the minimum, read the max motorsports site, they talk about the adjustable cables. DO NOT buy an adjustable cable. Purchase a firewall adjuster with an aluminum quadrant, and use your oem stock cable.

alright cool. when i bought the car it had an adjustable cable in it. well, i guess when i get paid im gonna be getting a new cable and firewall adjuster. thanks v8

hey v8only....i adjusted my clutch just like your article said and im still having the same problem.....WTF! i know its hard to diagnose a problem over the internet. but its really getting annoying and im about to just slam it in first going like 50 and blow the stupid thing up. someone help me before i freak out
