Wierd sound in second gear

Hey all, if I am in second gear with rpm's higher then 3500, I hear a noise which sounds like somone is shaking a can with really small marbles inside coming from the engine area closest to dash. Has anyone experienced this? I have a squeaky steering wheel I have not fixed yet, could it be the steering column making this noise?

Yes, It is detonation. What is your timing set at and what type of fuel are you using. I would recommend cleaning up all your sensors. Detonation = BAD for engine

I will check the timing again, im pretty sure its at stock timing. Currently I have 89 octane in, it has happened before with 93 octane...

You are definately pinging. Do a search on "pinging" on this forum. You will find tons of info, and a great place to start looking for the problem.

Our cars have the pinging plague much worse than the 87-93's do.
