Will 24lb injectors, Kirban AFPR, 255lph fuel pump be enough for FTI H/C/I combo...?

I have ordered FTI cam, AFR 165's, and going to order the Edelbrock RPM Intake and was wondering if 24lb injectors, and a Kirban, with 190 or 255lph fuel pump have enough fuel for the combo...it is 100% daily driver...

My stock fuel pump has been "whining" for a while...I'm going to upgrade that shortly after the H/C/I swap...how would my "combo" be with 24lb injectors and a Kirban...?

I think 30's are to big for a daily driver and would rather have more fuel pressure than less...and this car doesn't stay in the high rpms that much except when I'm "racing"...so I don't need the fuel of the 30's all the time...

Thanks in Advance... :nice:

ttt...

What kind of cons would there to be getting 30's...(the car is 99.5% of the time below 3000rpm...) ...would I get less throttle response by "dumping fuel"...slightly worse gas mileage?...I sometimes punch it at a low rpm and I don't want it to have a bad A-F ratio at those lower rpms...?

These are going to be box stock AFR 165's...with a nice streetable cam that should hit 110mph in the quarter....Edelbrock Performer RPM intake...

Thanks...

The 24#rs & 190lph pump are sufficient for your setup.

The RPM intakes runners are too short for a mild-mod streeter. Your low end will suffer. I highly suggest going with the Performer or the RPM-II.....
.....the original RPM is all top end despite the rpm range Edelbrock claims.

30's all the way. My friend has that EXACT combo you plan on using and he needed 55psi of FP to get a nice a/f. The bad thing about that, is sometimes using a fpr to tune is a short term fix until the eec adapts it out. Now he runs 30's and I run 30's too in my TFS/FTI set up. My car was Lean with 24's. Go 30's and if you choose not to take my advice, im sure Ed will recommend 30's as well. My car runs/drives/idles fine. The eec should be able to "learn" the fuel curves. Don't listen to the internet racers who have never even been to a race track tell you that 30's are too much injector for a stock shortblock h/c/i 302.

I'm running a NA 306 with 24# injectors, 39# fuel pressure, 190 l/hr pump and my maximum injector duty cycle that I have data logged is 78% with the latest Tweecer RT software (accurate injector duty cycle). I think 24s are pretty much optimum for your combo.

Good Luck, Don

Lemme throw this out. You can always pull fuel pressure out of bigger injectors (to a certain point, and you fall into this catagory) but you can't put more fuel into to small of injectors. Don't go through the headaches of having to buy injectors twice. Buy the 30's and tune it down.

So what exactly makes some people say 24's and other 30's...to some people the 24's make it go lean...but what do the 30's do...wouldn't that make it to rich...

I have gotten suggestions through some very knowledgable people thru PM's to get 24's...because it is 100% daily driver even though I do race it a couple times a week...

With stock fuel pressure according to Pro-M the 24lb injector is good up to 426 hp...obviously I'm not anywhere close to that... and the 30's are up to 530hp...

...and I still have the auto computer (has been converted to a 5spd)...I HAVE HEARD THAT THE AUTOMATIC COMPUTER GIVES IT A RICHER IDLE...so if I went with 30's wouldn't it be "super" rich...especially at idle...

GET A NEW FUEL PUMP FIRST. You don't want to drop over a grand on aluminum heads and ruin them the first time you get on it and have your whining stock pump crap out on you.

But........Definetly go with the 30#ers. Don't make the mistake I did and get 24's because you read on this site that 24's are plenty, because you are eventually going to go with a bigger setup. It's going to happen. You must be bored with current power levels, or you would not be upgrading. What do you think is going to happen in a few more years?

I disagree. Let's say he does the AFR's and only does a few minor upgrades after that. 24# injectors will still be fine for that.

On the other hand, let's say he does the AFR's and in a few years decides that's not enough and wants another major HP increase. Since he has already done heads, the most common option from there is a supercharger. And even if he opts for the 30# injectors now, those won't be enough to support a blower + AFR's later anyway.

You may think you'll never mod, and you might not, but if you are replacing the pump once, why not go for the 255lph pump? It won't hurt to go for the bigger one and if i remember right, the cost increase is minimal.

btw, if you want to go for 24# injectors (my vote is 30's) check out f-body forums. 4th gen camaros and firebirds ran 24's stock and guys sell them off like we try to get rid of 19's.

Alright...well I'm going to go 30's...it looks like...but I still think 24's is enough...but I got to go with what Ed says :nice:

Yep a blower with H/C/I is way out of the range of 30's...

Maybe just maybe in a year I'll go with supercharger...

But for this summer...I'm going with FTI cam, AFR heads, Performer Rpm Intake, 30lb injectors, 75?mm MAF, 1.6 RR's, Griffin Radiator, gaskets...etc...I'm looking forward to it...just waiting on Ed to get it to me...

So what is the difference between the 75mm Bullet, 77mm MAF, and 80mm from Pro-M...what would be the benefits of getting a 75 compared to an 80mm....75mm would give better throttle response?...80mm would give me more higher end power...?

Thanks again,

David

Go with the 80mm Pro-M plastic shorty, it will be great for your current set-up and will be fione if or when you go to a blower, it can be mounted down low in the fender with no issues also. The 80-mm is one of the best reading meters Pro-M makes.

Keep em coming :nice:

And why is the 75mm called the Bullet  while the others are just the "number"...

Sounds like a call to Pro-M is in order. They can answer all that. :)

I called them a few months ago to ask if a Pro-M 77mm from a Fox would work on an SN95, and the tech guy was pretty informative.
