Well the reason i ask is because i had a guy tell me that they newer '90-93 bumpers will not fit on an '86 GT and match up with the bumper cover. I thought okay yeah ya know i guess that makes sense because the fenders were suppose to be "bigger." I always assumed they were bigger inside the wheel well for more room for the Pony rims. Anyways, well the more i think about it the more i wonder why wouldn't the "bigger" '90-93 fenders fit on a '86 GT body and match up with the bumper(Besides the mouldings boys). Because those fenders were used on the 1987-1989 Mustangs, and when you buy a replacement lx bumper cover its not like they make 2 different ones for 1987-89 and 1990-93 Mustangs. And i know that when people convert 4 eyes to Aero nose cars all they do is swap front bumper covers and leave the fenders. And i assume the holes are the same as well for mounting the bumper cover to the fendres. Has anybody ever done this before to know for a fact? I don't see why it wouldn't fit and i don't want to buy the other fenders for no reason. Plus having the bigger fenders on an '86 would be better for 18's!

yes the bumpers and fenders will work. the only difference in the fenders is the wheel opening is bigger to accommodate for the bigger wheels. it's the bumper extentions that are different.
They are? Okay so then if you were to put the bigger '90-'93 fenders on an '86 the '86 extensions wouldn't fit on then? Cause i know the 1987-1989 fenders can fit the '86 fender extensions. Hm...
In '90 i believe (or 91?) when the 16'' Pony rims came out they had to open up the wheel well more for clearance (or in my opinion to retain the 4x4 look that Ford loves to give the Mustang 
) and that lead to the shorter fender extensions. I wanted to use bigger fenders with my Pacecar nose but the extensions won't fit

The fenders are not bigger. The sheet metal is the same dimensions as any fox fender 1979 - 1993. The only difference as cenok pointed out is the fender extensions them selves.
I know the 1991 - 93 fenders are listed as a different part number but I have measured a 1986, 87, 90 and 93 fender side by side and there is no difference except the location of a few holes, some of those are for the extension. I have a 86 GT and a 90 LX fender on my 87 LX right now.
You may have to drill a hole or 2 to put your 86 fender extension on but the fender it self will fit fine.
The fenders are definately different.
The lower part in front of the wheel is an inch shorter on '91-'93's.
All '79-'90 fenders are the same.
Because the wheel openings are bigger on '91-'93's the extension piece is different than on the older fenders.
I had to replace the fenders on my '92 and accidentally bought '87 fenders and they were different so I had to return them and get '91-'93 fenders.
The inner wheelwell plastic splash guard thing is also different due to the wheel openings being different.
