I've got a 89 that is in need of a new speedo. I found a 91 with a 160 speedo. I was thinking the whole cluster will work or maybe just the gauges out of it & put into my cluster. Some say no & others say yes. Can you help me? Need to know soon before it gets sold..Thank you

you should be able to just remove the speedo unit by itself, you don't need the whole thing i don't think. and i don't think you'll find any white gauges for that, i've been looking forever now. if you do... lemme know plz

the only way i've seen 160mph on a 89 is if it was from a state patrol. And NO 87-89 is diff cause they never came with airbags, 90-93 came with airbags, this has been discussed before dozens of times. please do a search

The electrical connections will NOT work. I learned this the hard way. I bought a cluster from a 92 to put in my 88 without doing any research. When I hooked up the connector, the hazards would stay lit, my high beams would flash, and a bunch of other wacky things happened. It was a nice little light show. I managed to get the speedo out of the 92 and made it fit into my 88 cluster though.

Supposedly you can move some of the wires around in the plastic connectors and make it work. I cannot verify that since I haven't tried it. See http://www.stangnet.com/tech/cluster87-93.pdf for information on the wiring differences, The clusters are interchangeable, but you have to do some trimming & move some wires.

You can swap the plastic circut board from one to the other. Did this when we put a black 92 dash ito and 87 4cly to 8cly swap car, when keeping the 87 hanresses. Only this is, the 90 cluster is shaped different where the steering column trim meets up with it. Like mentioned, can swap speedo over but will still have to deal with the shape. The speedo will have the bottom coner trimmed off.
