i would like to get an aftermarket ignition. what i really want is a 2 step, but a rev limiter may work.

if i were to have a rev limiter set for 5500, would it work as a launch control device? i usually launch anywhere from 4500-5500 rpm's and i'd be willing to launch at 5500 all the time. if i hold the pedal to the floor, the rpm's won't go above 5500 rpms's right? so i could launch at 5500 rpm's, but shift right before that point while holding the pedal to the floor. the tach would bump against the set limiter while shifting, but the rpm's wouldn't go above 5500 rpms's right? does this sound reasonable. money is an issue, so that's why i am debating this meathod. do you have any other suggestions?

msd sells a distributor that runs with your stock system but will also accept a ignition control later on. when the car hits the rev limiter it is going to start a almost like dying symptom, probably not good at launch. i want to get rid of my limiter. just a thought

i don't have any experience with an aftermarket ignition. you don't think that bouncing off the limiter is like having a 2 step? is the way the way the 2 step works different than a rev limiter? what i mean by that is, with a 2 step you can hold the pedal to the floor while a switch only allows the rpms to go up to a set point. the ignition will cut some firing in the cylinders to keep the rpms at that set point. doesn't a rev limiter cut the firing in the same manner?

With the crane system you dial in your 2 step on the limiter dials and put 12vdc on the yellow wire to activate it. It's one or the other. I 2 step around 4200rpm for launch and shift at 6k on the stock tach (dyno pulls showed it accurate there) My two step is wired into the horn circuit, just unplugged the horns and plugged in the ignition feed. Car sounds like a friggin race car on the two step... throttle floored at the first yellow and it launches clean, just pop the clutch and the horn button off at the same time and away you go.

cool. so you're telling me that the HI-6 has 2 rev limiters(one for high rev and one to use as 2 step)? or are you saying to plug a 2 step in?
