Will a heavier oil help blow by or help quiet a supercharger?

I heard of people using heavier friction modifier for quieting rear end gears so I was wondering if a heavier oil will quiet my blower a little. Also I suspect having a little blow by so I was wondering if that would help. What kind of Mobil 1 should I get? I live in Florida so I dont need to worry about it freezing and stuff.

I use Mobil-1 15-50 for hot weather/extreme conditions. What supercharger do you have, and what noise are you reduce? What makes you think you have blow by? Also, if you are running rich you will be using more oil, especially if it's not 15-50.

Its a vortech v-1, it sounds sweet but its like the only thing you can hear when my car is running. My exhaust is too quiet and people here the whine and they are like what the hell is wrong with your car. I think I have blow by cause I tested a couple of cylinders withj a leakdown tester and the results were not spectactular.

A heavy oil could possibly make the blower slow down and cause wear on the internals of the blower. Of course I'm exaggerating the affects of using an EXTREMELY heavy oil, but it's still possible nonetheless. I don't think any oil is going to quiet down a supercharger. If it does, it's probably causing more harm than good.

I'm not commenting on blowby. I get blasted everytime I do.

I agree here, the whining, jet engine sound that you're asking about is probably the compressor vanes in the SC unit. See if you can get an SQ unit, I think those are quieter.

BTW, I know this one person (stupid girl) who every time she hears my car says" WHY DOES IT ALWAYS SOUND LIKE IT"S GOING TO BLOW UP?" I can't possibly try to explain it to her again.

I'd run oil that's a bit thicker because you live in such a hot climate.

As far as blow-by is concerned, I'll say this: Switching to a synthetic oil of the same weight might free up a couple more ponies, but it could also make your blow-by issues worse (specifically if you have worn out valve seals).

Not to bust your stones, but he wasn't asking for you opinion on whether or not YOU wanted to hear the blower whine. HE is sick of it. He was looking for answers to his questions and you posted something completely irrelevant to the questions he had. I would be mad if I were looking for answers and someone doesn't even attempt to answer my question and throws around their opinion instead. I think you would be, too.

Notice, my friend, that I presented information relevant to the topic before any opinions about whether or not I/he/she/you/him/it/her/etc. should like the whine of the supercharger. Your opinion about an abstract topic contributes nothing to the topic at hand.

The second number is the viscosity index. The VI is a number indicating the rate of change in viscosity of an oil within a given temperature range. Basically, if you have 15W-50 oil, you have a 15 weight oil that will not thin more than a 50 weight would when hot. It's basically giving you the "ranges" (for lack of a better term) of the oil.

So, what is good for what, like a 5W50 would be good for colder conditions since its a lil thicker while a 15W30 is thicker for hot conditions?
