Will Coyote 6 Speed Work In Old School 5.0's?

The 6 speed manual is not only used in the coyote, it is also used in the 3.6. The t56 was a 2 year run in the cobra. The new 6 speed is 2 year run so far in the V6, GT, Boss, and shelby. Which stand to reason there will be a lot more of those. Plus as they are officialy being mass produced they will be around for alot longer being used in the years to come making them much more readily available. Yeah its only been the first 2 years of production so your not going to see any. but what about 10 years from now, they will be WAY more available than the t56 from a launch of a 2 year limited production vehicle.

It's not just about production though. Companies like D&D have been putting T56's into Mustangs for probably 5 years before the Cobra had one, and they have the ability to be adapted to a mechanical speedometer.

I'm a realist, i look at things based on logic, not desire.
So while my opinion on it may come off as negative, that's because the idea at the moment isn't realistic. If there is another 5-10 years of mustangs with manual transmissions on the junk yard market, then that may prove to be a consideration, but that's years away. Right now, the idea makes absolutely no sense.
Who's going to take the time to build a kit for a trans that is worse and just as expensive as a t56?

And just so you guys know, there are kit's out there to put a new auto in a fox. Why? Because it's a great trans, puts up with more power than an aod, better efficiency and shifts faster than the average person. Since most cars are auto's these days, they are plentiful.

My terminator swap had nothing to do with different. I wanted something i could beat on that wasn't going to blow head gaskets or pour oil out of every orifice, that didn't have to be built up to grow into 600rwhp hp in the future and i didn't have to downshift to get into the power.

Different and better are 2 completely different trains of thought.

Bottom line, you want a 6 speed, it's gonna cost you quite a bit by the time it's drivable.
Good transmission setups are expensive period. Whether it's a t56, tko 500/600 or a gforce

These 6 speed swaps just seem so useless. I don't know about the Coyote 6 speed (other than the numerous problems I've seen reported in other threads) but the T56 6th gear isn't much taller than the T5 5th gear, so for cruising it doesn't seem like much of an advantage. Furthermore, the extra weight and packaging issues combined with high cost just doesn't seem worth it.

I know you can buy a T56 with a taller gearset, but they are even more expensive and are coupled with a first gear that some would consider too steep.

I'd rather just get a quality T-5 with a taller overdrive gear and call it a day.

And those are all options for you...no one poo-poo'd your choices...what it sounded like to me from the get-go was purely spitballing. I can't speak to any of the issues with the new 6 speed...not in my build, so I don't concern myself with it.

Xp, I know what you mean by being a realist, but the only solid figure I noticed you throw out was the $400 x-member...again, with the correct skill set, a more than sufficient support could be fabbed for less than $100. I never saw any numbers about how much the tranny runs, or a shifter, or any other ancillary components.

The kits to throw a new auto into a fox are however a respectable idea-especially if you don't wanna mess with a clutch or miss a gear at the track...one of the guys at work said something last night about new Mustangs in the 8's with a stock tranny-impressive needless to say.

Although you say different and better are two completely separate trains of thought, that's not always the case, and many times they can and do coincide. Hence the reason I'm dropping a 4.6 turbo in my '84. That being said, I know we've disagreed on a few points in the past, so I'll not bother you anymore with it...I'll agree to disagree. tex, while i realize different and better can go together, for me, better is the only reason to do something. If it's different, than so be it, but that's not a reason for me to do something. While it may appear that i have a bit larger of a budget than others, i really don't, i just put ever dime where it counts at this point in my life, so cash on different doesn't pay.

I'd throw out a solid number on the trans, but the only one i can find for sale are rebuilds and that's for $1800+shipping. Which means it's pretty rare still.
A good bellhousing that is not custom costs $350, so assume a specialty bell is going to be more. Then you need a new clutch, something to convert the speedo and skip shift, a cable.
Let's not forget either that the new mustang has a hyraulic clutch, which is something that i know is possible to run on a fox, but making it work properly won't help the cost either.

As far as fabbing up a mount for $100, i can believe that, but only if someone possess the welder and the proper skills. Which is probably less than 1% of the people here, it's certainly not a project for a first timer.

I used a tko600 because it's the best, cost wasn't far off of a t56.
But i'm with twilight, the 6 speed swap is physically useless.
Have you guys even checked the 6th gear ratio on a 2011 6 speed?
It's .65, which is worse than some t5's and tko's, and on par with others at best. So no gas mileage to be had there for sure.

That's exactly what I was going to post before I got to the second page.

The six might even have a detrimental effect, even if negligible, on economy due to more rotating parts and drag. I don't know what they weigh, but more weight will negatively impact city economy, too. The only practical reason I can see for having one is to put behind a high-strung engine in a heavy car that could benefit from having gears closer together...like the Coyote 5.0L in a 3600lb GT. Even if it did fit/work in a Fox3/SN95, it would never pay for itself in fuel economy and probably not in performance either. Take some of the $2500 for a trans swap and buy a disposable economy car.

No, I didn't check it-again, I didn't concern myself with it...not in my build-thought it was an interesting idea. But if I buy a new Mustang, I'd be more inclined to know more about it. Anyway, have a good night.
