Will fox 5.0 Mustang exhuast line up on a 93 5.0 T-bird?

The post title says it all. I just recently hooked my girlfriend up with a 1993 5.0 t-bird, complete with 302 HO, a $500 stereo system, fully operational gadgetry, ice cold AC and all for $1300. Car looks mint.

It's got some crazy merging exhuast that comes out from the headers, merges to some resonator thing and then splits back to dual exhaust. I think this is silly. If you have dual exhaust then it should be dual exhaust!

I have a leftover 1 5/8 MAC headers and a mustang h-pipe. Will the headers and h-pipe line up on the 'bird?

NO

Theres a reason they run that 2-1-2 system, there just isnt any other way.

Oh well

The headers look funny too. It's sorta a tri-y kind of setup.

Will the 5.0 headers alone fit and line up with the recievers on the y pipe?

NO means NO...

If you are absolutely determined for this car to have dual exhaust I'm sure a good exhaust shop could do a custom system. Where there is a will there is a way but be prepared to pay. As far as the headers go, theyd bolt up to the head but I'm sure there would be clearence issues. Best bet would be get a nice sounding muffler and some nice stainless tips, you'll have the aesthetics you're looking for and you wont lose any performance whereas you may lose some tourque with the dual setup. Good luck

i had a 91, it has 3 cats and 1 resonator and 2 mufflers
i got the 3 cats deleted and had 50 series on mine

I saw on Mark VIII's they run the pipes close together in the tight space for the exhaust, then split them out. The mn12 thunderbirds are very similar to the fn10 Mark VIII's should work.

I had a 93 with a 5.0 and had to get a special Flowmaster catback exhaust setup. When the cats clogged up I dumped them and had a custom pipe made.
I coud not find headers to fit int he engine bay due to the size of the strut towers and tight space between them and the engine. If you can get the headers to fit in the engine compartment then you may be able to get someone to make the rest of the exhaust system.

You should also check out www.TCCOA.com if they are still around as they are the best source of info for T-bird and cougar parts.

Yeah those shock towers were what tipped me off that not all 5.0's are the same. It's so cluttered under the hood of an EFI 5.0, I had to keep walking back to the mustang and gazing into the pleasant emptiness of a carbed motor's enginebay.

Looks like the t-bird market is not as developed as the mustang market in terms of parts.

Would that rear end accept my 8.8 3.73 gears I have sitting around? It has some funky rear suspension back there.

it has an 8.8 independant suspention. so any 8.8 gears will fit. they make headers for it but unless you want to shell out over 400 bucks, i would not do it. you can use any part from a mustang on this motor as well besides exhaust.

No I don't think so , but they do make a few cat back systems for that car.

it will use those gears and i found some headers for it. go to www.summitracing.com and type this part number in. JBA-1645

My Goodness!

Parts for a bird are expensive! I think I got headers and catback for the mustang for less than that.

are emissions a big deal where you are. if not and you can find a shop to do it, have at least the first 2 cats gutted and put some 50 series flows on the back of it. i put the 50 series on mine myself but it was a very tight fit because of how long they were. the pipe curved and entered the stock mufflers as soon as it curves, so that was a harder thing to do for me, plus the flows had bigger inlets than the stock pipe. it sounded pretty good but you could barely hear them because of the 3 cats. so i decided to gut all 3 but my tranny went out before i could test how good it would have sounded. aod's suck, my 91 tbird had over 200,000 miles on it and it still kicked butt.
