A friend of mine at work has one. it's got a new header, intake and exhaust i believe. i can find out his exact mods. i went for a ride in it and it felt slow. theyre only quick off the line right? I'd think with my mods once theyre in i can beat him after 3rd gear and easily from a roll? what do you guys think? im not sure if he can launch it yet either.

ehhh... i should be running that if not 13.0 with real good driving.
my friend was driving my car with just the x pipe and we were playing with an STi on the highway. dropped into 3rd at 65-ish but my friend didnt bring 3rd out all the way and we dropped back a car length but then he really floored 4th and we were its back bumper then we saw the state trooper pull out ha...

If he can't drive or is afraid to rip it.....yes.

If he can drive (Mods suggest so) no....and if your list of mods are still not on yet, HEYELL no.

Sorry....light car + turbo = bad news for V8 on street.

96-98 Cobras won't take an EVO. Those cars go 13.0 bone stock. AWD intercooled turbo. They are wicked fast. I saw a modified one run right next to an 03-04 Cobra (which had a pulley from hell, and exhaust) from a light to what looked to be like the end of the Cobras 3rd gear. This was 1 week before the Dream Cruise right on Woodward...everyone that didn't know what an EVO is, was scratching their head...it was pretty sick. Then he raced a Kenne Bell GTO, and they were right next to each other too....

damn, you really think i'd lose that bad? it'll barely be tenths faster and that's only from a dead stop. my car is getting the new rocker panel and door fixed and the mods should all be on within the next 2 weeks. guess we'll have to wait and see... i hope theyre not as quick as you guys are sayin cuz a lotta ppl at school have them.. i'm gonna keep believing in the cobra ha

I have a hard time believing that a pullied 03 had trouble even if on the street....the EVO's run out of steam....but if you saw it, that is good enough witness for me...

The thing is that these things are AWD and zip to 60 in no time flat....top end, you should catch him, but it may be after the 1/4, especially if you are stock geared...then again, you may not.

I owned an Import car shop for the last 7 years, and I would really warn you against racing these little cars. I know there is a red one that I built that runs in the 11.1-11.5 range and is totally stock on the exterior.

From my experience the evo is faster in the 1/4 mile than an sti. The sti falls on its face once it is in 3rd gear. I did reviews of both of these cars so I got to beat the living crap out of them for 2 weeks each.

These cars may be only 4 cylinders, but they make a ton of hp, and put it all into forward motion.

Good luck. I hope that you do win.

Here are my 1/4 mile times when I was driving the evo:
R/T---------------.829 (I fell asleep)
60'---------------1.863 ( hit the rev limiter)
330--------------5.504
1/8---------------8.549
mph--------------80.30
1000-------------11.183
1/4mile-----------13.392
mph-------------- 102.41

I wanted to make a few more passes, but was affraid that I would fry the clutch. I guarentee you that I could have gotten more out of this car. I believe that a 13.00 is possible in completely stock form. For the run listed above I used no Icing tricks, and it was in FL heat.

i have a 97cobra , 3.73's, some suspension, and drop in K&N...i raced an evo from a 35 roll and and was pulling him...we tried racing two more times, but traffic got heavy. I really wanted to race him from a dead stop to see how i'd hold up. I was really impressed with his car for it being bone stock. Alot more impressed than thesrt4's i've raced!!

I've pulled on evo's much easier then sti's around town. No saying that sti's are the better vehicle but just my expereince.
