Will I need to machine my stock block to accept a CHP 347 stroker kit?

I basically blew out my bottom end this weekend using nitrous. Dont know if the timing was off or the internals just are old. Since I have to replace the whole bottom end due to everything blowing up, I decided to stroke it. Ive decided on a 347 stroker kit from CHP, the one that retails for almost $2000. Im gonna have thme balance it to. Will I need to machine the stock block to make it fit or can I get away with just throwing it in there with no additional work? If anyone has any expirance with this kit please let me know what is the best route!!! Any help is appreciated!!!

You'll have to notch the bottom of the cylinders so the rod bolts don't hit and the assembly can rotate ... other than that it'll all slide in with the usual rebuild maching that should be done.

You mean your old used block?

If your bores in the cylinders are in spec maby you could just rehone the cylinders and clean off any ridges. You would have to do a 342 because a 347 kit comes with 4.030 pistons. I would think if you're going to spend all that money you would want things right.

Just F.Y.I. To figure out the engine displacement the following rule applies bore squared x stroke x .7854 x # of cylinders. Standard is 4 inch bore 3 inch stroke. equals 301.** C.I. 3.5 stroke= close to 351.

Bore=measurement of cylinder from side to side-straight across cylinder
Stroke=length of piston travel.

$2000 for a rotating assembly??!!?!?!?!!?!

I paid a few hundred more than that for a fully built/machined 347 shortblock including parts. I run probe/chp ultra light 4340 I beam rods and probe srs forged pistons with perfect circle rings and clevette bearings. I use a scat 9000 cast steel crankshaft.

.030 over....notch the cylinder skirts for the rod bolts to clear.....new cam bearings, freeze plugs and hot tank it. to play it safe you should get it linebored unless you pulled the motor running

Actually my mistake, I meant $1200. $2000 is for the forged crank and balance. This kit is the CHP streetfighter with cast crank. It comes with everything to rebuild the bottom end. Yes, the block is a 74,000 mile stock, but I cant pay the ridicilous shipping charges to send a fully assembled short block to Hawaii. Im going to be putting this together in my garage and wanted to know if I can do it without machining. CHP says 9 times out of 10 I dont,but I cant take the risk.
