Okay, so I have the chance to buy a 4V Ford factory aluminum intake for next to nothing. I have no idea what year of engine it is from but I am assuming it is from a later 302. I think it would be a step up from a 2V cast intake. I was just wondering if this intake will work on a later style 302? The engine that I want to put it on is a 1974 302. I know that there were some differences between the early and later 302s but is there a way to make it work? gaskets?

its hard to say if it will work since we/you don't know what it is. If its just a regular production 302 4 barrel intake, it isn't worth the trouble to swap it anyway. There were some 'over the counter" intakes made and sold by ford in the late sixties that were actually pretty good and would be a worthy upgrade.

Well I just found out that it is from an '83 GT 5.0. Do you think that it would help any over my stock cast 2V?

its not worth the effort in my opinion. Just save up some more money and put a nice aftermarket piece on it.

actually yes it is worth the effort to install that intake for two reasons;

1: the stock 2bbl intake is cast iron, and the one you can get is aluminum and thus lighter.

2: the 4bbl intake you are looking at is a minor step down from an edelbrock performer intake, and with a 4100 autolite carb will give you better performance than the 2bbl carb, as well as better fuel efficiency. i say go for it.

it'll still run out of breath at 4500 rpm or so. A 1983 mustang intake is not a performance piece by any stretch of the imagination.

I have to agree with 302 on this one. I don't know what you paying for it but like 302 said save up and get a performer rpm or even an airgap.

Unless its free I don't see the point really. Now if you can talk who ever into giving it to you then

it's almost free...$5CDN, so to you Americans it is almost like nothing. LOL. Being that I am still in high school and only work part time it is very hard for me to have a lot of money. I'd love a better intake but paying for parts for a complete resto is bad enough. I think that it will be better than what I have now but will get switched in the future.
