Will rims and tires from a 2005 fit on a 66 5 lug.

Hey 2005 guys! Will a set of your rims fit on a 66 V8 5 lug Mustang. Also, does anyone know what the backspacing are on those as well?

heres the spec of the 05 GT rims:

5-Lug 4.5" bolt circle

6.295" backspacing

17" x 8" wide

(the V6 mustang rims may differ, but you asked in the gt tech, so thats what i assume you want)

the 66 will need spacers to fit. check out the classic mustang forum, as i believe some there have done this already.... the classics were made for reverse offset more than the new ones. (think basically deep dish and reverse deep dish)

Confused.... The ones I was looking at I was told were 16 inch. 215/65/R16

These are the wheels I was looking at, but I was told the back spacing was at least 6 inchs. Can anyone verify that?

Those are the V6 rims, and yes, they are 215/65/R16.

try the V6 Tech forum, as many of the V6ers dont visit the GT tech very often, if at all. it is a V6 wheel, not a GT. most of us GT guys dont have access to those rims to verify backspacing for you. just a thought......

quite a few people have already done this.

bottom line - you need spacers, but yes they do fit.

You may have to have a smaller tire. I know a 235/60r15 won't work on a 15x7, but a 215/65r15 will work. The 215/65r16 will obiously be an inch taller so it will be close.

why wont this tire work? it wont work on the car? or wont work on the rim? a 235 tire fits a 7 inch rim all day long....

Some info..........

I assume you're going for the Halibrand look.

The V6 05 wheels are 45mm offset, 5.7" backspace.
The stock wheels you have (no such thing) most people run 4.5" backspace on 16X8 wheels on early mustangs. 3.5" is what you'll need if you want it to look right in the wheel wheel running a 16X7.
That being said, a 3.5" backspace equals a -12mm set.
Doing the math you'll need 2.2" spacers. Around $150.00 a pair.
