I need to replace my noisy smog pump! I looked on 50resto and they have the one that fits the fox body cars, and it's fairly inexpensive. Will this work on my 95 GT?

If you are lucky, someone may just have one they are willing to part with on here, and they may chime in. I don't know for sure about the fit of the 86-93 fox pump, but my guess would be that it won't fit do to a slight clearancing problem.

I picked mine off of a 93 and mine worked

Uh oh .... JT, you didn't already have a Fox pump laying around did you?



I thought they didn't work with the 94-95's, though.

It's a pretty simple device, why not re-build it yourself? I bet you could find bearings and stuff for it. In fact, I know EXACTLY where to find brand new smog pump internals. I'll leave it to your imagination as to where to find them . . . . .

John, do share. Given the way the vanes slide in and out of theirhub, the series of small bearings and need to have the mainshaft dialed right in, I dont think sourcing parts would be all that easy.

If the vanes ran on a fixed plane, it would be easy. But Given how they hit the housing wall if there is any main-shaft run-out, you have piqued my interest.

I think you can even use the smog pumps off the older 5.0 ford trucks I am going to check my part numbers on the pump on the my 86 and my old pump that I took off my mustang when I did my smog delete.

Koniz, the fox and 94-95 pump should have different part numbers. That was why I was surprised that the fox unit could be retrofitted.

FWIW, reman'd units are twice as much for SN's vs foxes. THere has to be some reason, it seems to me.

I can think of two reasons!

1. Our cars were only a two year run so there are less of them available.

2. Because of 1, they get the extra money ...... just because they can.

Grady, they are listed under different part numbers. According to LRS, a fox pump wont work - that was as far as I went in comparing.

Otherwise, I would have tossed a fox pump in.

Ok, This prompted me to go look a little closer. The fox pump has the fitting for the hose on the side of the pump. The clocking is different, as is the pulley.

Koniz, how close was the smog hose to your ABS lines? I have one line that looks like it would be real close (for SN guys, if you look at your pump, there is a flat spot on the side that faces the ABS pump. That is where the fox hose fitting is.).

Also, where does one source that fitting? On the SN pumps, it is integral to the backing plate (part of the case) whereas it bolts on, on a fox. I took a look at LRS and didnt see that fitting - maybe a J/Y item, I guess.

I would have to get underneath the fox to see more about any possible issues. The housings look very similar from the top though (sans above mentionings). So like Koniz said, it could work (it did for him), as long as the fitting and hose doesnt interfere with brake lines, etc.
