Hey guys,

Who has installed a tray on their ride? I need the torque specs for the mains on the 2 bolt main 351W. I have the 385 Crate Motor btw.

Of those running a tray... noticeable gains in HP? Oil pressure now has got to be monitored like a hawk, as less saturation meets the crank.... or is this a total hoss sh1t myth?

Thx!

I never used a windage tray with hopes of improved HP. I always put them in to help control the oiling.

I don't believe it's a myth. Swing your arm around in the air. Now get in a pool and put your arm through the same motions in the water. Get the picture. Kinda how your crank behaves in free air VS sloshing around the oil.

To control the oil right.... but wouldn't it be safer in your perspective to have more oil sloshing and saturating the crank... ?

With your example... don't you think that there must be a slight gain in HP as the crank doesn't have to push thru the oil sloshing?

Any idea of the TORQUE Specs???

Thx!

No, it wouldn't be any safer with oil sloshing around on the crank. It doesn't do a bit of good there. The oil needs to be in the oiling system where it'll find it's way to the crank/rod journals. It's certainly not going to splash in there.

Maybe my example was a little exaggerated. The HP gain would be insignificant for street purposes. Start turning 7000+ rpms and then maybe you'll start finding a couple extra HP in the high end. That's why you'll see real serious race motors running dry sumps & pulling a vacuum on the oil pan.

As for torque specs, these are the only #s I've got handy.

For a 95 Cobra R (351w): Main bolts-->105. That's assuming stock fasteners installed with 30 weight oil. That number will change if you're using an upgraded fastener such as ARP. ARP has a listing of torque specs for their fasteners on their website if you need them.
