Window Switch Problems???

So I recently picked up a 91 GT and the passenger window doesn't work. I noticed wires coming out under the door panel so I removed it to check it out and there are 5 wires disconnected. 3 of the look like factory wires while 2 of them look like jumpers that were added by the previous owner. When I hook them up one way the window will roll up but not down and if i switch the wires it is the opposite. Sometimes even the door lock switch will operate the window. Can anyone tell me what I need do? Could it maybe be a bad switch? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would pop the switches off and clean up all the connections, if you have the same exact problem pop a switch that you know works off the drivers said and use it on the pass to see if thats the answer. Sounds like you need to go through and make sure your wires are in good shape, make sure no one cut anything on the inside of the car

I'll probably take the one out of my 87 tonight and try it out. I know it works. I just seen those cut wires and got really confused. Wiring definitely is not my speciality. Lol...... Thanks for the quick response. I'll try to snap some pics of what I've got going on and get them posted

yeah the wires are pretty easy because they are all diff. color so just match them up and connect

Yea I seen the factory wires were all color matched but the 2 jumper wires they have in there kinda threw me off. I'll just start with the putting the switch in and seeing what happens I guess. Thanks again

Well I changed the switch and the windows still don't work. The door locks are working fine but that it. The switch that operates the passenger window on the drivers side feels really stiff and doesn't operate smooth like it should. Could that be bad and effect the switch on the passenger side?

Ok so here is what I've got. I replaced the switches with good ones and it's still not working correctly. So here's what it will do:

Drivers Side: Will roll the drivers side window up and down and operate the drivers side door lock.

Passenger side: Will operate the door lock on the drivers side and will roll the the passenger side window down.

What do I need to do now???

You need a Voltmeter.

To break this down easier...

Driver's side window rolls up and down properly.
Passenger window will not operate from driver's switch.
Door lock functions normally.

Passenger side window rolls down only when using the passenger door switch.
Passenger door lock is inoperative.

So, first I would start with the door lock actuator on the passenger side. You need to pull off the connector and check whether or not the power is getting from the switch to the connector. If there is power there, then you know that the actuator is toast, which is very common on these cars. If you have a battery available you can jump wires to the actuator and see if it works, too.

If there is no power to the actuator, then you need to trace those wires back and look for breaks.

With the window, basically the same thing. Determine whether there is power at the window motor connector when you operate the switch. Trace back from there.

This may help if you can read circuit diagrams...

No not yet. The harness that was in it was all chopped up and re wired so I figured it needed a new one that wasn't all hacked up so I went ahead and put one in. I need to do that though.
