I am getting my windows retinted this coming weekend. I'm getting some REAL DARK. Somewhere around 5 to 15%. Does $260 sound about right to remove old tint and retint?

sounds a little high to me man... i got the windows tinted on my winter beater (00 altima) for $90 about 2-3 years ago. i didn't have any old tint to remove, but i know it's not that hard to do... just heat it up with a heat gun/hairdryer and it should peel right off with a little help from a razor. how much would they charge if didn't have them remove the old tint?

That sounds high...I got my 2000 GT fully tinted and a vinyl strip put on the "dot matrix" on the back window for $135...

I'd get some more estimates...

WAAAAAY TO HIGH!!!!

Removal is a bitch if you don't have the right tools. Seriously, grab some soap water, buncha razors and go at it. I've gotten 4 doors and rear w/ defroster for 50 bucks(no previous tint). Also helps if your sister is dating an audio/tint installer.

The average standard price should be on a mustang with tint alreardy around, 160-180.

I heard that there is a glue underneath the tint. How do you get the glue off? Just razor it all? Any adhesive needed?

for super dark? and a quality job? that sounds about right frankly. seriously, I've seena lot of cheap tint jobs and they're just that...cheap. they bubble and peel and all that crap. if you want it done right you're gonna have to pay - just like paint. and taking it off is also what jacks up the price. try peelin it off yourself. just my $0.02

I was gonna have my hatch done in double limo by one of the best guys in the city for tint and he wanted like $200 to peel the old and put on the new...I'd do it if I had the money.

there is a BIG difference between a cheap tint job and a good one, you can tell the day that its done.

There might be a tad bit of glue film, use a green scrubby and little soap water after you peeled the tint to get the glue off, then you are set.

I payed $125 to get my truck done, that 8 windows in total. 3 rear for the slide, 4 sides that are full size for the crew cab and the windshield has a brow. I thought brows were stupid at 1st but i really like it, it helps alot.

The layer of glue will come off with the tint if you peel it off slowly. When i tried using a heat gun it just made the glue more sticky and it stuck. Dont use a rasor on the back window if you have the defrosters, you will slice them off. I think i would let the place take the back window tint off. Ive had a couple different shades of tint and the darkness has no effect on the price. Right now i have 5% on everything but the windsheild and i have 35% on the windsheild.

I paid like 160 to have my 95 gt tinted a few years ago. I would guess the price should be pretty low.

Why use a green scrubby? Is the glue easier to take off when it's cold or warm?

Peel the old tint off slowly and most of the glue should come off with it. Then use some isoprophyl alcohol to get the remaining glue off.For the stubborn spots i used a varsol like solvent.( we use it at work for washing up the units on the printing press)
I went thru this when a buddy backed into my drivers door, the replacement door had a $hitty tint job on it so i got it ready for a new tint myself.

Wasnt hard at all....
