I just recently purchased a 1967 mustang back that I used to own in High School. The gentleman that bought it from me then Has basically kept it in storage for the last 10 or so years starting it up once twice a month or so. He had all the body work done, painted and replaced the window door weather stripping. I am in the process of putting her all back together and let me tell ya he didn't do a very good job at keeping the bolts labeled or being easy to find. I am currently trying to get the windows taken care of. I got the vent windows back in but I am having a problem with the windows rolling up. It seems that they are binding on the weather stripping as they go up all but that last inch or so and as I try and force the handle around to get it up the door bulges out. Is there an easy fix for this? I have tried to wedge a screw driver between the bottom window edge and strip and after I get past the part that is getting caught the window goes up. Then the problem returns after I roll it down. Should I just replace the window weather stripping or is there something I can do to fix it so that they go the whole way up with out binding?

Are you refering to the window felt at the top of the door or the foam at the roof line?

I am referring to the piece of rubber that is on the top edge of the door. It is the piece that would be touching the outside of the glass. I can't get my camera to upload pictures to my computer. I found this one online. I am referring to the outer window weather stripping.

Yeah, that's the window felt. IT could be new on both sides and would make it real tight if not put back on correctly. There are little "staples" that hold that felt on and if it is not installed tightly, it will bind your window. Remove the felt and try the window then. If it works without a problem, reinstall the felt "correctly" (tight to the door).

Not to sound dumb, but what is the correct way to install it? I don't think he took the windows out when he put it in. Do they need to come out to do it correctly? Is there anyplace on the web that shows how to doit? i have been searching but have not found anything yet.

There is a stop at the bottom of the window that you can pull out to allow the window to drop down lower. At that is the way 68 works. Not sure about a 67, but I think they are both the same mechanism.

Were the holes that the felt secures in the door bent or otherwise distorted? This is easy to do when taking the felt out, and would keep the felts from sitting flush against the door. I'm not sure if that'd be enough to cause your problem though.

I think they are probebly bent a little. When I started messing with them I noticed that the end was not screwed to the door. The last clip at the edge is loose and the hole the clip goes in looks a bit bent up. i think I am going to see how much new stripping costs and pull the old out and see if I can't fix it right.

Is the rubber just stiff? Try a little silicon spray.
