I'm not sure if anyone remembers my whole soap opera ordeal with my old engine but the long story made short is my block is ruined so I will be starting with a new Windsor. I'd normally be able to answer all these questions myself but I'm deployed in Iraq and all of my tech books are packed away in the States.
I'm currently looking at the Man O'War by World (9.5 deck, 3.99 bore, 2.79 main). I've got a set of excellent dished aluminum pistons (.040 over) paired with Eagle rods (don't recall the length). Currently I'm running a Scat crank (3.85 stroke) but would like to replace it with an internally balanced unit. I have a set of stock AFR 205cc heads with 1.6 rockers. On top I'll be throwing a 6-71 with fuel injection.
I suppose my questions are regarding the block, crank and rods.
Is the $2.5k price tag on the Man O'War worth it or is there a comparable unit? I've been looking at the Dart Iron Eagle which is about $200 cheaper but can't make up my mind about the quality/performance differences.
If I go with an internal crank (requires min. 6.125" rods) I'll need to measure my rods and determine if I need new ones. Is the advantage of an internal balance worth the cost of new rods?
Don't Windsors normally come with 3.0" mains? I noticed the Man O'War only comes in 2.249" and 2.749" flavors which I thought were 302 and 351C respectively. Mains can be bored out can't they?
Also, there were two deck heights in the production 351W, 9.2" and 9.5". I am assuming my old block was a 9.5" version from the late 70's (78 or 79 I
believe), will it make a huge difference if it was a 9.2" block? I don't recall ever specifically ordering my parts for one version or the other.
