Winter tires/Daily driving a stang Q

i got a set of blizzaks on my oem 17x8 i take the 315'S off around mid december and drive till beg of march with them and i live in pa no problems really except my front bumper becomes a snow plow i dont reccomend going out over 3" snow max

you cany avoid salt find a dry day and wash it

I went through three winters with Blizzaks and cheapo wheels and only got suck once (in my driveway). As long as you drive carefully, you'll still be better off than a lot of people that think their all wheel drive will prevent them from spinning no matter how they drive.

I use Nokian Hakapeelita, awesome tires in the snow, i put a bit of weight in the trunk for added traction though. Im in Montreal Quebec, and we do get LOTS of snow.

I did the winter tire thing for a few years never got stuck but it always felt like I was going to. I bought a 94 Jeep Cherokee this past summer for rainy days and winter driving, man there is no comparison. The jeep would go threw a foot and a half of snow like nothing. I would say get the stang but get a cheap jeep for winter driving. You could find one for 1k.

I drive my GT in the winter, its not too bad. You may have trouble if you are parked and get a lot of snow, it can be a little tricky to get it moving. Seeing as how your car is a cobra though I would keep it away from the nasty weather. It's too awesome a car to subject to it the salt as well as a potential accident. There are too many idiots that don't know how to drive in the snow.

Ok, first of all, the whole myth of 'Stangs sucking in the winter is crap.

Will it spin the tires a tad, yes if you want it too, sometimes starting from a dead stop on a hill it will spin the tires a tad and then I clean out the tread and she's gone, no joke. I make it a point to screw with 4x4's in the snow. I think a lot of people just aren't as nuts as I am.

Posi works great for getting my pony moving in the fluffy stuff.

It is still a rwd car and she could buck you if you aren't ready for it, I won't lie, I've had the car sideways at 65 in icy conditions, but as soon as I let off the gas she came back quicker than I could blink. I was also driving a bit aggressive, you know me, I was chasing down a 4x4 Cherokee. All of those years running around on the go-kart paid off.

For you, if you were serious about DD a 'Stang, a convertable has a useless trunk. Driving a stick in the snow, for you, would probably be more of a pain than it is worth. The 4r75 and I get along just fine, rain, shine, 4 inches of snow, she gets me to and from with out any worries.

My car does not have trac control and no abs and I can say that I haven't needed them. My wife has even taken the car to work on snowy days and told me that at no time did she feel scared driving it.

I also run 150lbs of weight in the trunk.




I also want to add that an S-197 will do even better in the snow, especially with Blizzaks. You would be very impressed with not only the 3V, but the auto tranny.

You may want to look at mid 08's and up though, as a few have complained about not following Ford's recommended procedure on removing the plugs and have broken off the plugs in the heads.

Bernie loves' his S-197's, he's had three of them now and says that all of his, with stock all seasons have made their way through the snow with no problems. I can also tell you that his 3V with a cold air intake, throttle body and a tune would have put my 2V to shame on the top end. A 3V automatic, stock, will shift through the first three gears at 6G every time. You can also feel how much tighter the new chassis is.

But if you're stuck on cheap Foxes like I am, I definitely enjoy DD my 04 through all seasons.

For salt, I use a combo of motorcycle chain lube and a product called Salt Away. You could also find a car wash place that has an underwash system that uses clean water. Do that once a week and you will be golden.

I love my 04, she brings a smile to my face everytime I drive her.

As others have said, winter driving is no problem with the right tires. My mustang is my daily driver and only car, and I've never gotten stuck.
