WINTER WOES ALMOST OVER!!

Guys i dont know how many of you store your cars for the winter months? but I do and it is now finally March 16th and we have had back to back 50 degree days here in Maine and basically I am itching to get the car out of storage...The only thing that holds me back is the 9 feet of snow melting all over the roads and mixing with all that sand and salt from this winter...it makes this nice sanding compound for clear coats so i have to hold back a little...Ahhhh it is so nice, I guess will just have to open the sun roof in the Grand cherokee...

What's winter? I drive my car all year. I've got the sun burn from the NMRA Spring Break Shootout in Bradenton to prove it, too.

Ours melted about a month ago and we've had a few big rainstorms. I've had scarlett out all week. Just finished waxing her about an hour ago.

I’m curious I just purchased a new mustang GT a couple weeks back (just avoiding our last winter storm), do you put your mustang away mainly because of road salt and protecting your car in general or because the car is simply horrible and undriveable in the winter? I know your winters in ME and slightly worse than MA in general.

My intention (rationalizing in my head on pitching it to the wife) when I bought the GT was to drive it year round. But with that being said my place of work is literally 4 miles from my house so the winter drive would be limited to work and taking the wife’s SUV for anything else. I was also rationalizing in my head that my wife is a teacher and at least on bad snow days she will get the day off and I can just take her car when an actual storm is falling.

Is it just a bad idea all around to attempt to drive one be it limited during NE winters?

Winter

I love it. My winter tires came off this past weekend, the 93 octane tune went back in and I am dropping the top whenever the temp is 65 degrees or more.

I store it for all the above reasons...Rear wheel drive just sucks when we are being dumped on with 2 feet of snow (have a 4x4 Jeep for those days) also I am a clean freak and with the salt and road salt it ruins clear coats and the car just doesnt shine quite the same after. And i don't have a Garage to keep it in so it would always be in the elements. So i pay a few hundred for a 6 month storage facility.

Plus i remove the insurance (just comprehensive for $6 month) and i can buy all sorts of mods for 6 months...

i ran on skinnies thru every snow storm we had this year. i am young, so all my money is pretty much set away to rent, food, gas, insurance, car payment, mods . i cannot afford a winter vehicle.

i'd like to pick up a truck for the winter time, but i don't have enough common sense to buy a truck that would be good in the winter, [aka, not a lightning]

the cars arent that bad in the snow, you just gotta know how to handle em. know your limits, and don't under estimate how fast the cars ass end can turn on you.

its not a 4x4 or awd. so we're stuck being very cautious.

as for the road salt, a good undercoating should help prevent any rust from occuring.

and basically any time that i could of, i washed my car. got underneath the car extremely well. in the wheel well [man everytime i look at that i think i butchered that word] under the rockers etc.

on vacation to niagara falls in new york i felt like crying all the nice cars that were already rust boxes because of the roadsalt. i could never live there. imagine trying to find a clean 66 fairlane or something else from that time or so when 2004s have rust on em already.

Last Monday it snowed about a foot, -30 and 40 mile an hour winds, = -50, today, 60 degrees, all snow is GONE...BEAUTIFUL!!!! car will be out of storage in 2 weeks I reckin, but there always seems to be a storm during Holy Week, so who knows.

I do it for 2 reasons. One is to keep my car in good condition, particularly wheels and suspension components. I've got a good amount of money into my suspension, and I also don't want road salt to eat things up and make it hard to work on.

Two is because I don't trust other drivers in the winter.

I haven't driven this one in the snow, but I did my '03 and had no trouble. Grab some snow tires and it'll pull through it like a champ. Then again, my first car was a '65 Galaxie 352 and got it in the middle of winter lol.

yeah i hear that over here in chi-town we only use salt sucks really bad...but yeah i stored my car im driving now we have had decent weather for a few weeks soo i feel safe ..if one last storm comes i still got the beater in the driveway

I drove the Stang all through the winter of '07-'08, but this past winter it sat in a body shop from the end of Nov until March 6! It snowed nearly a foot in places around here the weekend before I got my car! Thankfully it was all melted and dried up by the time I got my car back the following Friday evening Just yesterday I filled her up with 93 and loaded up Doug's 93 performance tune. WOW have I missed it!!!!! Even with the 29.2" rear tires and no new go mods done, it pulls very hard and quick

Winter??? Man it was 85degrees here yesterday. Freaken hot! I wish we could get ATLEAST a foot of snow here...all we got this year and last was agua nieve..

I keep mine in the garage all winter. It will be a while before it goes anywhere besides around the block. The roads are as bad as I've ever seen after this winter. Pot holes, loose asphalt, sand & salt debris. We need a couple of really good rains to wash all this crap away.

Nice to see another person from southern Maine. I know there are some nice stangs around here, just not many on this site....

I'd be all for that. I've got a friend who works in Scarb. with an '04 GT, Zex system, supporting mods, nice car. We've talked about doing this type of thing also. My wife & I hit OOB quite often on weekends.

Yeah totally, I know a guy with a 96 "show car" convertible with lambo doors and he is a great body guy. He swings down to OOB every now and then.
