I have the engine COMPLETELY filled with oilAcid forms in the oil when it mixes with water, fuel and sulphur. That's why you want fresh, clean oil in the crankcase before you store the car.88_GT_5_oh said:thats a little far fetched IMO. if anything i would maybe just drain the oil.

Mike, I'm the one who originally replied to the statement about not changing the oil in the fall (page 1). You're preachin to the choir.Mustang5L5 said:That's why you should still change your oil every 3 months or so even if you drive relatively few miles. Oil oil contains harmful acids...even synthetics
Mustang5L5 said:The acid isn't in the oil, it's created through heat, carbon, washed down gas, etc.
88_GT_5_oh said:so with the car not running whats the diference, 95% of the oil is in the pan anyway, and if you do start your car durning the winter the fresh oil is pointless. not trying to say that there is no acid in the oil, i just see the fresh oil in the fall a waste of money

Mustang5L5 said:Well you want to do the change before you put it away, not right as you do it. That way the new oil has a day or so to circulate to "flush" the engine. Then it will all drain down to the pan.
My whole point was to not let the parts sit coated in old oil all winter. Maybe it's pointless, who knows. It's only a $12 oil change.![]()
