Wire short

Ive got an electrical prob in my 73...well a cupple, the main one im worried about is when my dome light is on and i hit the horn it shorts out (i lost use of my horn in the steering wheel) what happened is when i was in a friends driveway i had the dome light on and hit the horn and a whole bunch of smoke came out of the steering wheel (not the colume) so i took the cap off and the spring inside got so hot it wouldnt go back out, it was like it was pinched, the other wireing prob i have is with the turn signal (i kinda like this one) when i have the left turn signal on the lights alternate, not in unison, like police flashers. thx for any help in advance

pull the cam switch and see if its scorched anywhere or if the solder points look like crap....i had the same problem, except when id flip the signal itd start smoking....its only like 60 bucks to replace, and in my eyes its practically the lifeline of the car, if that goes everything else does to.....
